I'm currently In the market for a new toy, Ive had my eye on a 82 250r but no very little bout them. If anybody can me give a run down on there performance/suspension. Replacement parts availability and prices? Anything on the topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, an 82 is an old one, im sure parts are going to be hard to find. I would say to venture if you did get it and restore it to new, it would be a museum piece.

I love love love mine, top end kits are available I know. I see many for sale here in Ca. and way cheaper than 3rd gen. 2 strokes kick ass!

Thanks for the info. I'm considering trading my 200x 2nd gen with some cash for it I'm mot sure about the deal tho.

That trade depends a LOT on condition of the trikes.

82 250R suspension and brakes are archaic compared to the 200X, but the R IS an air fooler so that's a big plus!

X2 on condition, as much as I love my Fooler the 2nd gen X's seem to bring the $$$$.

As far as parts go… they're still around and a lot of stuff swaps with other trikes.
Brakes swap with first gen 200x so that opens up a lot of options.
The motor is the same 81-84.
Some places the foolers are cheap because they are not as desirable as the LC R's
The power on the Fooler is a blast if your new to 2 smokes and can be built to be very competitive.

192046That makes this so much harder. Both rigs are in decent condition. I like my x but I'm 6ft 6in 205 lbs I barley fit on it lol. The r needs a need carb and my x needs rear brake work, other then that both are trail ready.192045

As far as size of the trike you will not be gaining any from one to the other. I love the first gen R's I have a few and my wife has one. check out the build thread of my wifes 81. The parts are the easiest to find for the 82 over all other years it seems. engine parts are everywhere and not to overpriced. Dg sells new pipes and tips, maier makes front and rear fenders in red or white, convert the rear hubs over to a 4x110 set and run newer nicer rims. They make great power and are a blast to ride. factory suspension is weak and lacking but can be dealt with. Fronts are easy rear costs a fair amount to get better. For the carb get one off a later R bigger and better. Trading an 86-87 200x is something I am not sure on. they seem to bring some good coin, the R would be cheaper and alot easier to find parts for thats for sure. I have everthing to build another 82R but a good frame. They like to split down by the foot pegs it they ever sat outside and then froze with water in the lower tubes. Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm jus going to keep my x. I just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze, Id rather put a little more money away and buy another rig flat out to add to the collection. Thanks for the guidance
