Now, I know its not a three wheeler, but im looking for some help with my 86 tr200 fatcat. ive been told the motor is the same at a 200x just a little detuned? i got the bike a good many years ago and pounded on it when i was younger and it smokes like crazy. so i pulled the motor apart to do valve seals and a piston and ring job. I removed the top cover only to find the lobes on the camshaft barley recognizable ( and the bike was still running and going fine!) i found a cam from a 83 200x in good shape for cheap. just wondering if anyone can shed some light on if an 83 cam will fit in my 86 head. thanks!

well could you steer me in the right direction for getting a camshaft? searching for one for a tr200 doesnt give me much

Well, id have to do my own research, but assuming that since the tr200 was made for 86-87, and it is listed as having a 199cc engine, that it is more closely related, if not the same engine, as an 86-87 200x.

The 83-85 X has a 192cc engine that is completely different.

The TRX200 type 2 engine might be similar enough as well, try looking up your cam on partzilla, then click on the part number to see if it was applicable to any other models. If the cam doesn't sross to another model, try the part number for the whole head, or the cylinder barrel. If either of those cross over to another machine, then you'll know what other engines can probably donate a cam.

Here is the part number 14100-HB3-770

Its obviously discontinued, but I have had luck finding discontinued parts by calling honda dealers who are on the nationwide parts lookup database (Or whatever the hell you call it). More often than not, there will be a dusty, OEM part laying in someones parts department and better yet, they charge you the original price, not some jacked up fee on EBAY.

Good Luck.

The 86/87 200x motor is pretty much the same as the fatcat .
I know the compression release set up is different between the 2 models but I bet the cams are interchangeable , I also think the Atc is a little hotter cam so it would be an upgrade as well , fatcats are a little detuned compared to the Atc .
