Was thinking about it the other day; we all have accidents from time to time. What all have you broke/fractured/cut open? Just anything, doesnt have to be atv related

I broke my ankle this last sunday in 3 places and now have a plate and 8 screws.

http://youtu.be/dDmf0tKw4TY

I broke my shoulder and stretched the nerve trunk at Trikefest 2009 and had to have PT but no surgery. Heres a shot of me trolling campsites in my sweet sling. pretty much all they did at the local ER was give me pain killers and a sling so i hung out for 4 days shirtless for the remainder of TrikeFest 2009. I wrecked on my kfx700. It took me 3 months to get full use of my arm back.

I wrecked my 85 250SX when i was 21 and had to have 33 stitches and a drain put in my left leg. Heres a shot of my Leg before they stitched it up. I wrecked and didn't even lift my pant leg up to see the wound; i saw blood on my shoe and packed my bike up and went to the ER LMAO. after they cut my pants off i was yelling at everyone about reacting to it and describing it because i didn't want to know how bad it was. I didn't see the picture of the wound or the witched up wound itself for 2 weeks after the incident just to avoid the mental pain i would have knowing how bad i injured myself. I still don't have full feeling due to the nerve damage in the area i cut myself. They didn't give me anything to kill the pain for TWO FREAKING HOURS while they decided on either taking me to the Operating Room or just stitching it back up in the ER. It hurt, i would say comparable to the ankle break from 2 weeks ago.

I broke my wrist snowboarding when i was 17 in Utah

I broke my right arm when i was 17 skateboarding

Rolled my right and left ankles countless times skateboarding in my late teens/early 20's that have made for some sore joints

I broke my right ankle when i was like 12; Horseback riding when another horse kicked my ankle and broke it.

Thats most of the major stuff. plenty of good cuts and atv/snowboarding/skateboarding related junk that hurts still

what have you guys all broken/fractured/cut?

Jason - first and foremost, GET WELL SOON!!!!!

I have yet to break a bone (except my tail bone - while being pulled behind a big red on a plastic sled back in 1999)
I did do severe neck damage to myself at Malvern back in 2009. I came off my bike in the whoops section in 4th gear pinned, did a straight up head slide for many feet! Looking back - I'm happy to be alive.

Slipped on some ice back in December 2009, Broke my Right Ankle in 2 places, had to get surgery to get a plate installed.
When I was younger, like 3 or so, I fell of my brothers shoulders and broke one of my hips, spent some time in the Janeway children's hospital with a body cast and I think I also had a broken big toe from something when I was young, not sure.

Never done anything too crazy injury wise... I seem to be bad with phalanges though, have a more than average amount of scars on my fingers and have broken a few toes but that is about it....

Some of you guys need to be more careful...

I played high school and college football, so I know the alphabet . ACl,PCL,MCl, and LCL on 1 knee and just PCL on the other. 3 years ago I broke and dislocated my ankle on a snowmobile , I'll skip the details. It still sucks and swells. I feel for you. Good luck

Well this will probably be removed by a moderator but here's some tasty shots of my ankle injury from 2 weeks ago! They pulled the stitches and gave me a walking cast I can't out weight on for 4 weeks. First shot is the inside of my ankle where a chunk of skin is just missing and you can see the fat. I can finally get it wet today lol no more sponge baths for this filthy bast age. THe pics below the first shot are from wednesday when they pulled the half cast and put those white tape strips on , they told me the strips are supposed to fall off on their own over time. they look nasty by now 3 days later

Ran a drywall screw thru my left wrist , tried to back it out with a screw driver , but it was wrapped up in the tenon that controlled my thumb . Surgery .
Stepped on a board with a 12 common nail in it . Thru the boot and in the bottom out the top of my right foot . Lots of blood and pain . Tuffed that one out .
Tore my right bicep off the bone lifting 3/4 plywood to the roof . Surgery .
Right shoulder blew up lifting 12 foot 5/8 Drywall . Surgery .

I have broken about every toe, one as recent as 8-9 months ago. I'm just soft in the head and lunk around the house running into chit.
Broke 3 ribs, ring finger, and lost some hearing in a crash almost 2 years ago, last time I rode without a helmet. Twisted ankle and knee when I hit a tree while I was healing from the first crash. I'm usually really good about not dumping it haha
Broke my nose 3 times and more fingers racing BMX as a teen
Busted teeth/face, rolled ankles and plenty scrapes skateboarding.
Shredded my right ear to the point it needed surgery as a kid, looks good now :)
No real injuries snowboarding. I guess I'm a little more accident prone than I thought....

Man, Sounds luck I have had nothing lol!
Just put a rim and tire together for a high wheel sprayer Rolled it off our tire machine and lost it and got pinned under it. Broke 3 metatarsals in my right foot. Thankfully it wasnt much. Kid on a farm 20 miles north had the same thing happen. Pulling the wheel off the sprayer itself pinned him fused 3 vertebrae and broke his hip in 5 places. And then have the typical rolled ankles sprained wrists and stuff from sports and long boarding. Nothing to right home about.

damn! that sounds scary. Speaking of longboarding, i got away unscathed from accidents on all my boards, but there was a guy in college that i used to bomb hills with late at night after we were good and smashed; i saw him slam his head into the pavement SO HARD trying to step off his board at high speed hahahahahahahahahhaa.

something similar happened to me also when I was in 8th grade back in 2004 IIRC, except is was a "Shortbus" not a Car and I hit it it never hit me. I was going down a hill on a Wet/rainy day, when I was nearing the bottom of the hill I seen the bus get ready to turn so I put on the brakes, but cause it was wet from raining the brakes were crap and I couldn't stop in time and slammed into the side of the bus after it made the Turn. Was my only Road Accident, Police was called and a police report was filled out, the Bus driver was at fault as she never seen me going down the hill alongside her, the bus operator got me a identical bike as a replacement. as for the bike that hit the bus, IIRC only the front end was twisted around on it and as for me, IIRC I was in pain and had a Big Black/Purple Bruise on my Right Knee but was still able to walk around on it so didn't bother to get it checked out, beside that I was shaken up a bit from it. BTW the bike in question was a Vagabond from Home Hardware, I was riding on the sidewalk, I think it might have been OK to ride on the sidewalk back then but nowadays people with bicycles are not allowed to use sidewalks to ride on and have to share the road with the drivers, Let's just say that thankfully it wasn't more recent or I might have gotten a ticket or got part of the blame myself from being on the sidewalk.

How many of you have rolled or flipped a trike? Out of those who have, how many were seriously injured while doing so?

I've rolled 3 times, flipped once, and always walked away with minor scrapes and bruises (knock on wood).

How many people have flipped or rolled a quad and not been seriously injured?

I only ask because it seems like everyone I know who has flipped a quad ended up in the hospital and almost everyone I know who has done the same with a trike has walked away.

Which is the more dangerous vehicle?

I roll my X once a year at least :D Usually doing something stupid, It's my main trail machine so it gets to see the most abuse. Last october I almost ran into Mr. Crum's wife and had to bail to avoid wrecking her and her SX. Not even fast, I was just carving up some berms and didn't realize she had stopped so I ended up stopped and off balance. I think Garry, Dave and Jared hit each other behind me as a result.

Yeah, my buddy has a cabin right around the corner from John's favorite campsite so we were out there last year. Since it's so close and everyone was pretty cool I will probably keep going as long as it goes on :)

i will look at going again as long as they pick a weekend thats not packed with freezing rain lmao. we found the best trails on our last day, spend the first 2 days there riding fire trails and whoops, last hour or two we came across the good curvy backwoods trail, it was called infinity or some name like that and basically just whipped you through the woods winding all over. More like the trails we love from Rogers (sandPuppies) old rides that went for miles and miles in the middle of no where. MI is beautiful riding, just amazing scenery

Broke my wrist when I was 7 falling from a jungle gym. Peeled the skin from my elbow half way down my arm ( don't remember how many stitches) and ripped my nose completely off ( it's plastic underneath the skin ) in a car wreck when I was 18. When I was 19 I flipped a Z28 which threw me from the car power slamming me on the blacktop, then the car landed on me, breaking my sternum and entire ribcage, a piece of glass severed the artery in my head and I lost over half my blood. Spent 4 days in ICU, very lucky to have made it through that one. Those are the major ones lol.

I really prefer the open trails where you can just lay it out. We have some really technical areas too, can't wait to wind out the 300 on tin cup :)

Tried to remove a finger with my Band saw! (actually, the wood I was cutting sort of “exploded” and the blade popped through it so fast I couldn’t get out of the way fast enough)
http://www.brokenfencephotography.com/photos/i-XP2zH43/0/XL/i-XP2zH43-XL.jpg

Slit open my Wrist at work a few years ago, I’ll do anything for an early day! (actually I slit it on the sharp edge of a steel strapping used to strap things to skids!)
http://www.brokenfencephotography.com/photos/i-GQhX9m2/0/O/i-GQhX9m2.jpg

Bashed this finger really good this winter while trying to drive the pin out of my shock mount on the DXN, it was so cold I didn’t even know it was this swollen until I took a hot shower later on! The finger is still swollen and the tip still hurts when pressed on. DR. says it will take a long time to heal, fingers are like that. Lol

Then I had the usual sprains and breaks as a kid.. broke my collar bone when I jumped off a table as a kid, thinking I could fly like Superman because I had a cape (my blanket) !
Got run over by a Bicycle messing around with a friend and broke an ankle when I was a kid...lol

Had my elbow on my right arm dislocated by my older Brother when I was like 5! then another time he almost took out my right eye when he hit me in the face with a old steel ladder from our swing set...lol

took a nice sized saw blade width chunk out of my thumb with a chop saw!

Safety? That's for Scaredy cats and whiners! lol

Broke my thumb @16yo in a Police chase while my 79 RM100 pulled away from them, 2 tracks merged and I couldn't land it; Never bothered me at all. Cop threw my helmet in the woods and arrested me.

Broke my right clavicle on my 94 CR250 on some big jumps (I was watching Jeremy McGrath every weekend on his 93CR 250 frame, he loved that geometry). I was 30 something and it hurt but healed well and never bothers me.

On October 5th I was NOT wearing mt chest protector (no one wanted to wait, I won't do that again) and I lost the front brake; The only mechanical failure I ever had on any dirtbike or trike (about 20 of either). I hit the back of Shane's Tri-Z (Tri-Z Ripper) going very fast and landed far away on my left side. Broke ribs 2 thru 9 in 20 places or more as well as my left clavicle. Fought 3 weeks for surgery, also got a hernia somehow. I got titanium put in with 9 screws but I cannot lay on my left, I still have pain there. Thats over 6 months and still a problem.

Last was a broken rib #8 on my left side slipping off the backhoe (a spot of hydraulic fluid); Seems OK right now.

I've taken 1 measly lap on the 350RX to date and this next 12 days I will push out some laps. Got up to 233lbs. @ 5'10"s but I'm down to about 210 now and still dropping. I'm good at about 195#s when I'm running and lifting weights.

The recovery times at 43yo are FAR longer but I'm single, have my own house/machine shop and track on my property so I can't let these things hold me back.

ALWAYS wear ALL GEAR and don't let anyone hurry you because had I had my chest protector on, that bad crash 8 months ago could have been allot better; But, who knows, it happened......

Back to feeling pretty good now, out of practice and shape though so next week I will ride every day, rain or shine.

Been fighting with it for a year and half... It's kinda funny, but with this surgery, a few days after, I am already done taking my pain meds, and my ankle has less pain now, then it did on a nightly basis before... Hopefully that's a good sign. I feel like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. Life goes on, just with a bit of a limp! I just hope I will be able to go back into the construction field end of the sheet metal work. The shop or a desk job, I don't know if I could do that...
