So I have my coil connected and grounded to the frame. I got spark coming from the plug but it wont spark all the time. I will pulled it a few times and it will spark then it will stop sparking for a period of time. I know the coil is good because it was checked and when I do get spark its a really strong spark. I still haven't got this engine started yet. What could be the problem? Why wouldn't it be sparking every time I pull the starter. This is getting really frustrating. Oh and also what is the correct spark plug to use?

Is there a way to fix the points rather than replacing them?

I cleaned the points already with sand paper, the spark plug wire has electricity running through it though I could feel it when I touch the metal on the spark plug and turn the clutch. its just not sparking.

Try unscrewing your spark plug boot and trimming 1/4" off the end of the wire and screw it back on. Might be some corrosion in there. If that doesn't do it, replace the points/condenser as shoreline said.
