Just had my father in laws race 200x passed down to me. Been sitting in the weeds for a while but I already have a good parts list built and some on the way. Picked up a 22x7x11 front tech4 tire, new chain and sprokets, an new 86 250r front fender. It already has an extended swinger, extended axle, hi comp piston, ported head, supertrap exhaust and a larger carb. I will post some pictures Thursday of it being pulled from the weeds and the progress of the build. I also have another 200x for parts.

What year 200X?

Sounds like that will be a fun ride. Is this your first trike or just your first 200x? If it's a 86/87 and it's built up like that that's even better.

It is an 85 I believe but will find out for sure tomorrow. This is my first 200x, I had a tri moto 125 at one time but have been away from the 3 wheelers for a long time. The bike does have some goodies like I mentioned and I am gonna get it back into shape. It currently has the hard square knob (18" ice racing tire) on the rear but I'm going to put on a set of 18x9.5x8 turf tamers in I have in great shape on plus the new 22x7 (http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/723/31258/STI-Tech-4-XC-ATV-Tire) and 86 250r front fender.

Just got on the new 250r fender and clutch cable. Carb is off soaking and tank is full of vinegar. At 5000ft she pumped 160psi on my cheapo compression tester.

Nice rescue operation. I spy some goodies like that swinger and the supertrapp.

Great start for sure. Welcome to 3WW and please keep us updated with pics!

Very nice machine to just have in a patch of weeds. LOL. Nice to see someone is giving it some love once again. Good luck with the resto.

Thanks guys! Ya, my father in law ended up getting cancer a few years back and is still recovering so off to the weeds it went. There is also another 200x in full parts that's mine to pick from and an ATC70 in the weeds that's complete. He also has a mint 86 350x in his shop. I will keep updating this post as I progress on the revamp!

If the tank is original and the kicker is original, its an 84.

Super awesome project! Engine sounds pretty hopped up :Bounce

They are original. And thanks for letting me know the year, the frame tag is half there lol. I knew it was 83-85 but not sure which year for sure. The other bike has blue seat and is 83-85 as well just not sure which.

83-round tubing swingarm, flat bladed kicker, orange and red wing logo.

84-square tubing swingarm, round peg kicker, orange and red wing logo.

85-square tubing swingarm, round peg kicker, red white and blue wing logo.

Also, the tenth digit of the vin is the ultimate indication. D=83....E=84......F=85.

Got some more done on the bike like fresh oil and plug plus got the brakes bleed and working. I still have a ways to go like painting some things and different bars but you get the idea:

Awesome!! Thank you Dohc!
No problem. I can add to that as well...

83-round tubing swingarm, flat bladed kicker, orange and red wing logo, black seat, black forks.

84-square tubing swingarm, round peg kicker, orange and red wing logo, black seat, black forks.

85-square tubing swingarm, round peg kicker, red white and blue wing logo, blue seat, silver forks.

Also, the tenth digit of the vin is the ultimate indication. D=83....E=84......F=85.

There are many more differences between these years, even differences in the frames, pegs, etc. Without a vin i.d. it takes a trained eye to see the differences on a bare frame.
Remember that all of these parts can be swapped year to year, and you'll see bikes that break all these I.D. guidlines. That's why the V.I.N. is the final word.

Your X is looking fantastic! :beer

Thank you!! I'm guessing being a honda it's similar to the trx250rs where they had slight year tweaks but for the most part it's all interchangeable. I am pretty excited to get this thing looking really trick! Oh, and I got it running and it purrs like a kitten! Took a lot of doing but she is runnin great. It has a very odd mikuni 29mm carb. Can't find any info on it, it looks like a VM but it has a bolt flange like all the smaller carbs. Thinking it was part of a bank of 4 and someone did some work to make it run on this setup. I'll keep more coming as I get time to get to it.

Your picture also shows a black seat which indicates an 83 or 84 200X. Honda changed to blue in 85.

If you can not read the frame number, you can also get the VIN from the motor case on these machines. Check VIN for year as DohcBikes indicated above.

Very nice looking field find. I have two of these awesome little machines and run them hard in Sand Dunes (great fun).

If this machine has been sitting as you mentioned, I recommend you pull the side case and clean the oil filter. This is a funny little "belled" rotating filter in the clutch side case. This is not the simple little mesh strainer at the oil drain plug. Get a Honda OEM service manual for your 200x and it will explain this procedure. Keep your oil fresh and clean, and these little machines will run forever.

Another note. While you have the carburetor off, record the carb part number and part numbers of the main jet and slow jet. If this bike has been raced in the past, these jets and the carb (as you mentioned) may have been changed for larger sizes. This sounds good and works for high RPM's, but will result in lower power at low RPM's on these machines. Jets are cheap, learn your riding preferences and re-jet accordingly.

Have fun. These 200X's are great machines for kids and full sized adults alike.

Please save that ATC70 from the weeds, these are awesome machines also.

It has a mikuni 29mm carb on it right now and sadly, at 5000ft bottom end power is a unicorn. Lol. It has a 120 main in it now and I do have a manual and I have pulled and cleaned the filters, strainer, screen dealies. I need to get a valve cover gasket for it. She runs very good with the larger carb at the altitude surprisingly. It's no 250r but it is a very fun little bike:). Here is a little more I have gotten done. Still need to get the tank sanded and painted but it's coming along.
