I am in the process of building a ATC 480R. I am using a 84 250R frame and a 83 CR 480 motor. Does anyone know the differences between a CR 500r (air cooled) and CR 480r motor? I know the 480 came with a 4 speed transmission, and the 500 came with a 5 speed, but I cant imagine as it would be very hard to make a 480r motor into a 500r motor. Let me know what yall think?

82' CR480 has 4 speeds transmission, but 83' CR480 has 5 speeds.
Aircooled CR500 was only in 84. This motor is more modern: kick, clutch and exhaust on the right, chain/sprocket and flywheel on the left.
Both have same bore (89 mm) but strokes are different: 76 mm for the 480 and 79 mm for the 500.
Bore and stroke of the 500CR aircooled are the same than all years of 500 CR water cooled.

Thanks Ray, I guess it wouldn't be as easy as I hoped. I figured the bores were different, not the stroke. How is your conversion coming along? Any progress?

Not any progress on my 480R build.
I have designed the kick extension and I am trying to find someone to build it.
I may have found; I will see.

Yeah I don't have a clue what I am going to do for the kicker. Might just have to pop start it for a while.
