I've put new wheel bearings in and started puttin back together but the brake side hub is around 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch from seating correctly. I can see the wear mark Onhub where it's rubbed from the seal before but cannot get it to go any farther. Not sure what the problem is.

Every part is stock other than a bearing stopper on left side inside axle tube. It came off a 86 fourtrax but diagrams I've looked at show it to be same part number. One other thing is I've noticed in manual there is supposed to be a bearing stopper on brake side also. But don't recall my axle having that. I put fourtrax bearing stopper on left side due to it was completely gone from riding without wheel bearing on that side... I didn't know.

Any help would be appreciated. BR has been down for couple months. It's driving me nuts.

On the left axle tube, did you seat the bearings all the way down?

Yes seated all the way. Supposed to be that way correct?but was thinking if I pulled them out a little maybe I could get the play I red to seat other hub. Because seems like the bearing stopper is hitting the left tube bearing.

That's the problem. If you look on the bottom of page 12-17 of the factory manual, the illustration shows a bearing installation tool callout. That tool sets the bearings at 10mm below the outside lip of the axle tube. Installing the bearings all the way down shifts the axle to the right.

Oops, sorry that link doesn't have the ES manual. Try this one.

If I recall, the shorter one goes on the left

disregard... the 8mm seal goes on the right and the 11mm goes on the left. Ref: see the seal dimension items 22 and 23

Be sure to seal up the axle tube joints with silicone. Don't rely on the OEM oring design to keep water out. lay down a generous bead around the lip and bolt together. Let the squeeze out to cure a few hours before you remove it otherwise that stuff will be all over everything.
