250SX Front Brake Issues Continue

Well as I've posted before my front brake is not working, I've now replaced the cable which was undoubtedly needed, however the brake still won't actually engage to stop the bike. So I'm thinking its an internal problem, I've never messed with brakes, what could go wrong in there?

Worn brake shoes. Pretty easy to change. Read the manual. It tells you how to remove the front wheel. EBC brake pads are preferred. Be sure to clean the brake drum out with some carb cleaner. Try not to get the new brake shoes oily or greasy. If you do, spray them off with carb cleaner. Most local cycle shops that buy from Parts Unlimited or Tucker Rocky can get EBC shoes. part number is EBC #306 for the front and EBC #315 for the rear.

Buy urself some brake clean from the auto parts shop . Spray it down when trailprotrailpro done workin on it , just before you put it back together .

Definitely make sure it isn't just the adjustment out of whack. Just do a quick sanity check: put the machine in the air (at least so that the front wheel is free to spin). Spin the wheel and then just with your hand move the brake arm and see if you can get any brake action. Make a note of the point where the brake grabbed and then realize that the adjusters (at the brake lever on the handlebars and the wing nut at the brake arm need to be adjusted to get enough pull to get to that same point as the test.

Okay I will try that, but I seem to remember lifting the lever before and having no resistance at all.

Get the new shoes . Replace them . Buy some brake clean , spray it down before re-assemble . Adjust the cable ,,, your done for 25 bucks .

Sounds good, hopefully that's the only problem with them. I'm ready to get this wheeler in tip top shape.

Hey just wanted to clarify is there a difference between brake pads and brake shoes? And do I need both?

Pads are flat typically used with hydraulic brake systems. Shoes are curved used with drum brake systems. You have drums front and back so you need shoes.
