I am sure that most of you out there have repainted a few items, so my question to you is, what type of paints do you recommend? I am going to repaint the racks, maybe looking at restoring the engine. I am not sure if that is a paint or some type of coating, or even just the metal of the engine. ANY info is appreciated

Generally, I paint my frames with black epoxy from Southern Polyurethanes (SPI). If I have other stuff that needs to be black, I hit it with the epoxy while it's in the gun.

If the frame/part is going to be black, I stop there. Otherwise, I really like the single stage urethanes from Summit. I painted my 85 350X frame Summit red. It looks great.

For most small jobs, I use Duplicolor engine paint. It's easy and seems to hold up to stuff very well.

I also like their self-etching primer on bare metal parts.

I'm too cheap for powdercoating, generally, but I had my 86 350X frame PC'd after all the welding/reinforcement was done. It's still hanging in the garage. It's gorgeous. Cost $200 so...

Regardless, prep well.
