1984 200es big red axle threads

Is it possible to rethread the front axle? Mine is messed up and I have been having a hard time finding a replacement. I know the axle nut is 14mm so I am looking at getting a 14mm die and rethreading the end of the axle. Any comments or suggestions?

I bought a metric tap and die set from Harbor freight for 80 bucks . Got my money back 10 times over cleaning up axles and you name it . You will need to know the thread pitch also .
