I have been restoring a 1985 Honda ATC250ES Big Red. I purchased it from craigslist for $200. It did not run. The kid that sold it to me said it didn't have spark. I thought that this would be an easy thing to diagnose, I was wrong. It took me a little over a year and $600 dollars to get it running. Long story short I replaced everything from the stator to the sparkplug and it ended up being the pulse generator. I had put a new pulse generator in but the gentlemen at the Honda shop told me it was no good. He put the old one back in and we had SPARK!!!!! I cleaned out the carb and put fresh oil all the way around and it runs great. It is still not much to look at as it needs tires and new plastics but it runs forward and reverse and the ugly tires hold air so there is no rush on spending more money. I am in the Chico CA area.

I don't think 200$ for the purchase was bad at all. 600$ to get it running sucks but I can't knock you. I have spent lots on trikes, its part of the fun. Enjoy, a 250 B.R is a great machine worth spending money on. Also Welcome

My Big Red has the same dent but in both sides of the tasnk, it like some one squeezed the tank soo hard with both kness to make symetrical dents in the tank.

My Big Red only has it on the one side but my knee does fit into it nicely:)

Here's a few pics of my two 1985 Honda Big Red 250es. I purchased them both for $600, OLD MAN would only sell them as a pair. At the time I bought them they didn't run. Only needed carbs cleaned, to get them back running. Both are in great shape, but one of them smokes so I'm using that one as a parts bike.

Wow! Your parts bike looks better than my bike. I really like that foot rest/peg you got on the first Big Red. Did you make those? If you bought them I would love to know where. I would love a set on my Big Red.

I made them myself. Made them out of some grating I had laying around. Only took about two hour to cut and weld, then bolt it on.
