So I acquired a 1985 Honda atc 250sx three wheeler with the intention for keeping it on the farm as a utility vehicle. It isn't in mint condition but with some time and effort it can be a nice little machine. It was half covered when I found to electronics work fine which is a plus. Motor turns. Battery is dead but I don't want to put that investment in before I'm sure I can fix it so I'll stay with the kickstart. Although I have hooked another battery up to it and the starter sometimes tries to go. Green neutral light also lights up, another plus. Kickstarting also flashes the light for a second so either start method seems like it would start the motor. I have cleaned the carburetor twice a few weeks back and I blew it out with air today. The air box is good. Cleaned out the fuel shutoff valve. Replaced fuel filter. Drained oil and replaced it, new filter also. Didn't want to deal with a used plug on on 4 stroke so I bought a brand new one, gapped it and threw it in. Kickstarting gives a good spark. Tried a little gas in the cylinder and turning the motor but I'm pretty sure I missed something because it didn't fire. That's just a quick little list of a lot I have done. Just asking for some suggestions or comments. Open to anything and thanks in advance

If it fires with gas in the cylinder then you need to go back in to the carb and look at the startup jet. On the 85 carb, its the one that's pressed in. Here's my tutorial on rebuilding the carbs and tells you everything you need to know as to how to get the jet out Post #3 if I recall.

Do you know where the choke is ??? The SX + ES,,, well heck,,, all Hondas that are not fuel injected (like our old trikes) are very cold blooded.

One is my profile picture and the only other I have at the moment is a reference video of how the carb is placed and connected which won't upload for some reason. I'll be at the farm tomorrow so I'll snap a few pics. She isn't pretty at the moment the rear panel is taken off so it's just all frame.

The choke on it feels very odd. It doesn't adjust too much feels like something is holding it up

Well hopefully it is just the choke acting up then. The correct wording is "fuel enrichment valve"... ain't like a normal "choke" as we are all accustomed to.
The lever on the left hand grip control should freely move all the way left,,, and manually return to the right just as freely.

Hm, it doesn't move to freely as you mentioned. I will keep that in mind. I'm happy to see a few suggestions, I'll use them tomorrow and see what I can do. I'm gunna see if I need to take the carb apart, which I probably have to again, in the near future but if nothing else works then I'll take it off and take it home. Choke cable will be adjusted or cleaned. This old thing has been sitting, unmoved, for over 5 years under a freight trailer so I'm sure anything that moved is a little frozen up
