Hey everybody,

New to the community. New to trikes. Just picked up a beautiful Yamaha 225. I have some valve chatter and after a bit of research am planning on doing a valve lash adjustment. I'm fairly comfortable with getting it done but am unclear if I should be planning on replacing gaskets on my valve covers during the ordeal. If anyone has an advice, information, tips, etc it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I believe they are O-rings. I just changed the two on my DXN but Im not 100% sure if you are talking about the same covers... you are talking about the two round-ish covers at the top of the head, one where the Decompression lever is and one on the other side facing the rear? Im pretty certain these are the covers for the valves, if so, I just replaced mine with new o-rings cause they were leaking like mad, 10 mins of riding made so much smoke it was had to breathe...lol found two OEM rings on ebay.

Yea they are just o-rings. I had a spare engine I robbed them from as a quick fix. One of mine was leaking also

I have 3 sets of brand new ones. I get a set each time I buy a full gasket set, I have rebuilt and repaired 3 different motors on these now let me know if you need a new set.

Be aware that the 225 top end is normally a bit noisy when the valves are adjusted correctly. Over time, valve lash normally gets tighter, not looser.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm about to tackle this task now. Muthey after I reinstall if I have any issues with the current o rings I will definitely be talking to you about a new set, I appreciate the offer. Once again thanks for the info all.

treat the o-rings like an oil filter on a car and smear a dab of oil on them before bolting back down they will seal better that way.
