I just picked up a Honda ATC 185 for my son and we've already had a blast. I am very familiar with vintage mopeds and carbs but the carb on my 3 wheeler is a little more robust than I'm used to working with. The 3 wheeler does not idle but it runs good when you stay on the throttle. I assumed I had a dirty carb. I do not know if there's an idle jet or not. I know there's an idle adjustment screw. Any advice on carb cleaning this thing? Do you guys still rock the stock air filter? Are the vent hoses required. Any insight will be appreciated. thanks.

its easy as pie to clean your carb just unbolt it from the engine then when its off unscrew the 3 bolt at the bottom of the carb bowl. after this unscrew all of the jets there should be 3 take some carb cleaner put the nozzle up to all of the small holes and unclog them. reassemble and see if it runs correctly it might take a couple of times to get it right. and yes some of us do still run the stock filter but most use an uni filter.

If you can't clean or adjust it and make it idle, you might have worn parts. Then you should rebuild the carb. If you use an aftermarket rebuild kit, compare the holes in the new and old jets to make sure they're the same size. Sometimes they can have the same numbers on them and still have different sized holes. If your not sure, take the old jets to a dealer and buy new jets of the same size from them.
