Hi everyone. It's been 25 years since my atc 90 was stolen. My favorite possession in the world as a kid. Well a friend of the family has one in his barn that he wants gone and he is giving it to me for my labor to dig it out. I don't know anything about it except it has electric start and "I still have the racks for it somewhere". He used it for hunting and parked it 15 years ago "in perfect working condition".

I figured I would register on my lunch break because I will probably need some advise getting it ready to be used again.

I'm excited like a kid on Christmas eve. Hoping it's a big red, but even if it's a smaller one, my boy is almost old enough. I have looked at them on craigslist before but people want serious cash for anything that is not a bucket of loose parts.

Well I will stop back tonight with some pictures of what I have and hopefully I can get this th ING ready to go for under $200. (Wife doesn't know yet so can't skim a ton of money for it.)

It's no big red. But I'm not disapointed. It's exactly like the one I had years ago. Everything is there. Original plastic is in great shape. Just a little rust and a ripped seat. I would call this little machine a survivor. All 3 tires are rotten and unuseable. A full tank of somthing that might have been gas at one time.

He did mension that when he parked it, it was hard to start after it was warmed up and adjusting the valves will fix that.

New tires will probably blow my "undercover" budget. So now I gotta go tell the wife about it.

I guess it is. I followed up last night wi th a few pics and a little bit about what I have, but it says moderators need to a prove the posy first. Do you guys deal with that much riff raff here to go to such lengths with new users?

Welcome. Glad to see that you're back into the hobby. One question, I thought you said it has an electric starter? Oh well. It doesn't matter. Now I'm warning you, when your son starts riding, you'll want to get another trike so you can go with him. Maybe your wife will want to join in too. They're like Lay's chips and other things, you can't have just one! lol. Enjoy!

II was told it was electric start. It's just a 110. But it's really in good condition. No heavy rust. Original plastic is dirty but no damage there. Before I took the carb off, I sprayed some carb cleaner in there and it fired for a second on that, so I know it will run once I get the fuel system straightened out. Unfortunately all 3 tires are so rotten I can stick my hand inside the cracks where it sat flat. There goes my $200 budget all by itself. I just got the carb cleaned up but the pressed in jet was so clogged, I have it soaking in acetone hoping to soften that sludge up.

After the kids go to bed I am going to take the wheels off and break them down. Hopefully I can find some time to sandblast them at work tomorrow. New wheel bearings and seals were cheap enough that I just ordered new ones.

I could use some advice on tires. Anticipated use will be on grass, dirt, mud no deeper then you would walk through with a pair of boots and light snow up to an inch or 2. The prices for the cheapest knobbies look like they start at $60 a piece. But the name brand tires with better reviews on amazon are only 20 -30 more.

Also not sure what else if anything I should check on this engine before I put it together and fire it up. I was hoping fresh oil, gas and sparkplug would be good enough.

And my son just turned 4. He is a little small for this machine yet, but he maneuvers his modified 18v power wheels 4 wheeler like a pro. Good enough that I was thinking about one of those Chinese 50 cc 4 wheelers for next summer.

I have 2 boys one is 7 the other is 3. Bought my oldest son a Polaris Predator 50 when he was 3. Took him a few times to gt used to it but within 2hr of riding time he was a pro. My youngest boy obviously got the bike in the hand me dow process and started riding it about a year ago (when he was 2 1/2). Never too young to get them started just be careful and always teach them safety first. My oldest boy is on a Predator 90 now and they both just tear it up. I am building a big bore 70 now, my oldest son isnt very intrested in it but my youngest boy cant wait to ride the "little 3 wheeler". Riding with my kids is my favorite thing to do these days.

The chinese bikes are cheap but I tend to like something a little more dependable. I have had a few china quads and bike and was never happy with them. My 2-stroke Polaris' are easy to work on and keep maintained and are still on their factory bores. Whatever you do have fun and teach that boy how to ride! Welcome to the site :welcome:

Welcome to the site. The early 110's are fun trikes. I have a couple and they are decent to ride and play on. 22-11-8 tires are run on alot of atv's, check your local craigs for a used pair for the rear and then go with a cheap knobby on the front. Stay away from trail pro's if you can, they are rock hard and will rattle you to death. Also check at your local dealerships, sometimes the plain knobbies are real cheap, or they might have some factory take offs.

I ordered a kenda front max for the front. I am going to keep an eye out on cl for a cheap pair, but it will be running as soon as I clean out the gas tank. At that point I will probably loose patience and buy some new ones.

I also made a false a asumptuon that the tires would be a piece of cake to change since the rims are split. There has got to be an easier way.

There is an easier way to get the old tires off. The steel bands are not 1 continuous piece. If you knife the lashing that ties the ends of the wire together, it unwinds right off. Then the rubber will pop right off the rim.

Gas tank is sitting outside full of acid to get the rust out. Carb is rebuilt.

I got it running by putting a 5' section of fuel line on it and filling that with gas with a syringe. Ran it enough to warm it up so I could adjust the valves. (The intake was really tight. Exhaust was tight by about a quarter turn) point gap wand timing were right on. It does have a miss and I notice the points are arcing every time the engine misses. Maby they should be replaced.

The problem I have is it won't idle steady. It is fast then slow, then fast again in a pretty steady rithym. The engine makes some noise by the points that sounds to me like a chain flapping around. I found some posts here about adjusting the tensioner but nothing happened. Should I take out the tube/springs to clean and polish and try again? Would a bad chain cause the idle to be eradic like that? It revs instantly and seems to have plenty of power to quickly accelerate the flat tires.

Just waiting on parts to show up. Going to order rear tires as craigslist is a bust and local dealers want substantially more for Chinese tires then I can order name brand ones for online.

Everything I have a completed has come from posts on this site or the manual that someone here posted a link to. So thanks to everyone that contributes here.
