tank on my 250r is pretty faded and dont feel like spending the money on a new one, has anyone ever attempted to completely sand one down until smooth again?

You could always send it to Mr. Clean. His plastic tank refurbishing is second to none. Many threads about his tanks. I have pasted one below for your perusal.

If the price of shipping bothers you. Imagine paying him a fair wage for 7 hours of his work.. He's worth every penny.. He has posted exact how tos to get where you want to be. Takes a LOT of time :)) Good luck!

spray a heavy dosage of pb blaster on it and throw it in a trash bag in the sun. ive done this to fenders to if your not wanting to spend more than $3

with the pb blaster? it works great. i do it to everything faded. im like a pb blaster freak. i put it on everything.
