So my r needs the front sprocket gaurd. I know the engines are virtually the same throughout 85-89 but their is a few difference. So my question is will a sprocket gaurd be the same no matter what year I buy or do I need to find one off an 85 engine. Any help would be great

Any year 85-89 will fit, but the '85 version looked different. The 86-89 versions were all the same shape, but different colors. 86-87's were painted dark shot silver (metallic gray), and the 88-89's were black.

85 guard is black vs 86 being gray. Also the 85 had a clip on the bottom to route the fuel line

The '85 had no clip on the cover. The clip was secured via the bottom bolt on the cover, but was separate from the cover.

You are correct, I should have been more specific. On my 85 the hose guide is bolted on.
