1985 250es rear brakes

Ok. I am new to forum. I am putting rear brakes shoes on my 85 big red. Drum will not slide over new rear shoes. Any tricks before frustration and modification mode sets in? The brake shoes adj is at minimum. Any tricks would be appreciated.

There isn't a trick . Make sure the inside of the drum is clean , and the cables are free . Should slide right on .

Yeah as chopsaw said. Make sure both brake cables are disconnected & that the brake cam is in the parallel position with the contact faces on the shoes . Double check you have received the correct shoes.
No doubt you've done all this.
