I have a 1985 250es that will run for a while and then carb stops getting fuel. Could a bad fuel cap cause a vacuum? I am not sure if it is the petcock that is stopping it or a vacuum in tank. Any advise would be appreciated.

If the tank cap is plugged or not in the on position it will starve the carb of fuel I've bought 2 250es that was all that was wrong with them

Thanks for the advice. I will swap the cap off my 4 wheeler and see what happens.

that was the issue w/ one of my '84 200ES. There's a great vid on youtube somewhere of how the cap comes apart so you can clean it all up. Worked like a charm.

90% chance it's the cap. Some ppl drill a tiny hole. Not sure if soaking helps but they corrode internally.
I'd Love to see how to fix them.
Also ez to clean the petcock and screen.
Kinda like a sediment bowl that unscrews.
