Hello,

I'm looking for a good hydraulic press. I don't need anything huge, just big enough to press in bearings for cars, atc, atvs. Can anyone here suggest a brand I should check out? Also, what ton capacity should I look at?
I would like to get something not made in China if possible.

Thanks!

China or not, I've heard nothing but good things about the Harbor Freight 20ton press and it's hard to beat the price.

I second that, the HF press will be plenty for a person using it in his garage.

But in a shop, used daily? I would probably go for a better one.

Ok, thanks guys.

I found this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-shop-press-60603.html

The reviews all look really good. Also found a 20% off coupon. Going to head over this weekend and pick it up.

Thanks!

I just put some gussets on mine and the inner tube was hollow, now it's solid steel drilled and tapped to hold into the top.

A little work and they work just fine.....

i have zero complaints about the craftsmanship of the 7 year old chinese lad who built my harborfreight press. its pretty good.

One tip on the HF presses, or any tool they sell with a hydro ram: Check the oil, often they are about 1/4 filled.

I also have the 20 ton HF. No complaints. To find a new one that's not built in china will cost thousands.

if you are just using it for stuff like atv bearings, here is a 10 ton dake which is somewhat reasonably priced

That particular Drake is made in China.
The American version of it is over 2 grand. I don't know, but it may actually be built with China parts.

Picked up the 20 ton press. Seems really solid. Hopefully the jack will be decent. Works find for now. I did have to add oil to it, there was hardly any in it.

Should work great for you. I've had the 12 ton press for a few years now. I bought it when I was replacing the bearings in all my snowmobile bogies. I have the older orange model. That new gray color looks pretty good.
