...so the gorgeous receptionist says ta me she says.....
"that will be 1321$ for today"
she smiled nice so I gave her my credit card.
I thought I can deduct it on taxes, so no big deal and I was still goofy and a tad numb from 2.6 hrs in the chair.
Turns out, only 10% OVER 5 grand is deductible. medical bill wise.

So I says to my self I says, "I'm gonna print a 1,000$ worth of garage girlie calenders and send them to my customers ."
Technically soft core porn, cute girls in bikinis like u see in aany aauto repair shop, THROUGH the mail
delivered by federal employees and THAT is 100% deductible.
Really?You gotta be kidding.

Gotcha beat. No dental insurance here, but I saw a commercial for Aspen Dental, and took the bait. $2,700 for less than 2 hours work. They hooked me with "easy financing" to the tune of about 26% interest. By the time I paid off my bill, it ended up costing me about 5k, with no surgery whatsoever. I think they actually made my teeth worse. Did they give me a "Healthy Mouth"? Ah, FAWK no!!!

How much for one of those calendars? I would be paying in cash...

I suggest we all sneak OUT of the country and the walk back in like we own the place and we'll get free reakin EVERYTHING.
Yeah, I may have left there with less teeth than I went in with.

Someone, soon is gonna make us laugh.
Just wait...
This thread could go on for days.
Dental insurance is beyond comprehensible and the stories are even better.
Hope yer ok mang.
Granny used to say if ya wanna get sick?

Anything else is fair game.

The toothbrush was invented here in Union Springs, NY. Otherwise, it would have been called a teethbrush.

^^^ Chime back in 20 years and see if you have the same attitude. I brush my teeth 3-4 times every day, as I have for over 50 years. Getting old takes its toll on everything.

That is not enough. Flossing is as important as brushing if not more. One should also go to the dentist at least once or twice a year to have the plaque scraped off your teeth and x rays for preventative maintenance so you don't get expensive bills.

I go to the dentist every six months for a cleaning. As a matter of fact, I was in there this past Monday for my fall cleaning. I take good care of my teeth with brushing, flossing, and rinsing. I drink very little soda, preferring Arizona green tea, or, juice. And, I rinse my mouth out with water at the very least. Always use a tooth pick after every meal. Cannot stand having anything in my teeth. But, I have my mother's teeth, and all but maybe 3 teeth in my mouth has had major work done to them. I have 4 teeth that were root canals, and two are crowned because the damage was too extensive to just fill. My teeth aren't the best, and I wouldn't be surprised in the least if I need denture in another ten years when I'm 36.

Lucky for me, my dentist's office has a program where they pick a patience from each of the two dentists and they do your dental work free. Got 6k dollars free dental work done.

I had the distinct pleasure of having an Army dentist drilling and filling every one of my back teeth, except for the one that had a cavity. He basically destroyed my teeth. That was over 3 decades ago, so I am lucky to still have all but two of my original teeth, and those teeth were in the back, so no biggie. Eventually, I am going to have all of my teeth pulled and be fitted with dentures.

I never thought I would outlive my teeth, but I am happy to still be around. As a kid, I remember one of my older brother's friends had already lost all of his teeth by age 20. One night he told his Dad that he had a date, and asked if he could borrow his Dad's dentures for the evening. YEEEUUUUCCCCKKKKKK!

That sucks tri, hopefully Ortho is covered better than your regular dentist bills if you have young kids needing work. Ours is paid at 50%. Both my kids had braces and I'm out 6K out of 12K total in two years. They used to ask when do they get to go on a warm vacation.....I tell them to smile.

I have a double cleft. Innumerable visits to dental specialists. I made my own false tooth 13 years ago. Been making them since.

Saw hundreds of doctors. Had over a dozen surgeries including a bone graft. I have been held down by multiple doctors many times. Make of that what you will.

At 19 I became a legal adult in Nebraska. Been to a doctor maybe twice since then. If I'm not dying I ain't going.

If you can make em, I can use em!Sorry tripledog I only make my own! Those that meet me at trikefest will likely notice right away, as it is one of my front teeth and it is super difficult to match and maintain the color. I had a retainer that had a denture attached to it. One night back in the day me and my buddy brad (RIP B_rad) were about to go to a big party and were taking shots to prime. I caught one wrong and hurled. Before noticing that my retainer wasn't in my mouth, it was flushed. Not that idve gone in for it LOL but, at the time we were pretty swagged out and looking to impress, so a gap in my front teeth just would not do for the evening. I hastily made an impromptu tooth from a white plastic cup and super glued it in place. Ever seen Dennis the Menace with Walter mathau? The first tooth looked like his chiclet teeth. The next day I made one from a light switch cover, and it actually looked better than the one the dentist had made. I'd equate it to making a custom piece for a plastic car model. Super Glue was actually developed originally for dental use, and it has not damaged teeth or gums in 13 years. I can eat with it in place, no problem. I'm sure I've saved thgousands in dentist visits!

DC, I'm sure several people here could make dentures. Its all about materials and techniques.

I've got a cross-bite. Meaning, my top teeth on the right side are basically on the inside of my bottom teeth, instead of on the outside. When I smile, you can plainly see my right lower k-9 and a tooth on either side because my top teeth don't cover them. It's actually kind of neat, imo. All of my molars on the right side are also out of "alignment" in relation to my lower molars. My dentist would like for me to do the Invsalign to shift my teeth over the course of several months to at least a year, so they won't cause future problems. I wasn't wanting to do it because I'm not in discomfort, but, recently, I've noticed the edges of my front teeth have developed a "wave" from the problem. Not looking forward to spending the money...

As a kid I thought for a while that I wanted to be an oral surgeon. Between all my own surgeries and not liking to be at school, I eventually got over it. I don't wanna be messing around in people's mouths all day either. I will however gladly repair or improve their power sports equipment. I haven't missed my calling! As far as being well off, I'm very happy for your "two guys"! Don't worry bud, I got more than one pony in this show ;)

Sorry for the threadjack. I can't imagine paying thousands for dental care, but whatyagonnado? Brush your teeth! I guess....

That's kinda my deal.
VERY obvious that my GOOD teeth were drilled years ago just like you TD.
Called the Alexander Black dental technique, taught in dental schools in the 50's.
as a practice building trick.
When I asked if they really did that?
My dentist said they STILL do.
Anyway, I was going more for the absurdity that very little is tax deductible but
sending nudie calenders thru the mail for an auto shop is 100%. deductible.

What town and when?
Root canal is a fat grand, crown to keep it from breaking is another fat grand so to save ONE tooth is around2400$.
I wouldn't mind just 2 implants that match up for grinding but they're around 3-4 grand each.
Dental insurance, even the good kind for gov't workers doesn't cover much but a bad tooth can kill heart valves or throw a brain abcess so really nothing to fool with.

OK, almost done.
Who wants to get rich?
With all the new imagine tricks and 3D visualizations and copy machines that can make crowns in under 10 minutes, here my thought.
If a tooth gets knocked out, they say put it in a glass of cold milk and get to someone who can clean the socket and just put it back in. It should reconnect in place.
Now if that's the truth, why not 3D image a bad tooth and make a copy, sintered titanium or whatever they use for implants so they will grow to the bone etc., pull the bad one and "replace" it with the new one. poof, done!!

What do you mean "almost done" tri again? This is just getting interesting. In post #29 you raised some interesting points. A few of my back teeth are really bad, and I have been experiencing numbness in my hands and feet, as well as some pretty intense chest pains. During my last visit to the doctor (I don't go unless I absolutely need to), I pointed out a substantially sized lump near my sternum. He said "It might be a tumor. Come back and see me in 6 months". I would think that X-rays would be in order, but I'm no doctor. The 3 types of people I loathe the most are doctors, dentists, and lawyers. Oh my!

oh, almost done with rant but seriously TD,
I woke up with 3 black fingers on my left hand from a dental infection.
My dentist asked if I wanted pain pills and i said "NO, I WANT some GODblessed antibiotics".
To which he said, "antibiotics won't kill the pain"
WTF???
yeah, but it will keep my fingers from rotting off.
Luckily, the tooth infection bypassed my heart valves and didn't lodge behind my eyes.
Ain't no Fn joke man.
See, the thing is, if your gums bleed when you brush or floss, thats YOUR problem.
If it happens around a dental visit, it's THEIR fault.
Seen waaay too many bad cases over 26 yrs as radiology geek.
Don't take no for an answer.
This stuff can kill you even withOUT raging infections and pain.

My mate's wife works in a nursing home. Recently an old bloke got up in the middle of the night and went around pinching all the patients dentures out of the glasses next to their beds. He took them back to his room and had second thoughts and went back around putting them back but he forgot who's were who's and there was a near riot in the morning. Took them days to sort it out.
