The wife & I took a long weekend along with half the guys I hunt with. total 5 campers headed northwest from home (4 hrs) and camped in Parker Dam state park. 20 minutes from Elk county PA, which is where most of the daylight hrs were spent checking out the elk. They are currently in rut and the bulls make a "bugling" sound to claim their territory and their cows. According to the DCNR officer we talked to it goes on for as long as 2 months. Maybe not very interesting to most but the sheer size of these animals and the bugling was awesome to see. They are not only found out in the fields but we seen just as many grazing around in the neighboring towns yards! Here's a couple of pics and a short video (with bugling) that is not that great, taken with my iphone. By the time we left the field where the video was taken we counted 71 elk! Got wet and it was chilly but one the most relaxing and exhilarating weekends I've had in awhile.
