What are the best reeds for the money on a mostly stock 1985 atc 250r... I have never replaced them so I don't know when the last time they have been changed

The best bang for the buck would be to switch to some Boyesen reeds for your stock reed cage.

Assuming your reeds are still stock, the reed petals will be made of a thin metal. The "super stock reeds" are fiber reed petals that replace your metal reeds, which should be a slight upgrade over stock, but I have no experience with these. For a few dollars more, I would go with the "power reeds", which is a dual stage design, and I know from personal experience that these give a decent increase in power over stock. The "rad valve" from Boyesen, and V-Force reeds are also good choices, but are quite a bit more expensive as they replace the entire reed cage.

I have a used set of "power reeds" mounted on an '85 reed cage if you're interested in trying some. When I replaced the reed cage with a V-Force 3 setup several years ago, they were still in great shape. $10 shipped, for the reeds & reed cage, if you want them.

I run the Boyesen Pro Series Carbon Fiber reeds. Amazing throttle response.
