New to the forum just bought a 350x first bike with a metal tank and don't want it to get rusty inside. When storing for long periods of time should I drain tank and coat with something or just keep full with gas?

uuummmmm. I usually drain them and rinse with HEET , that wicked
alcohol water drying stuff and blow them dry dry DRY and spray with marine fogging oil.
Gets moisture out of the deep seams as moisture hides in the lowest spots usually
in the aft corners of the tank seams by the seat and don't leave it outside.
Cap OFF to avoid condensation.
or
keep it full with non ethanol gas. Maybe some fuel stabilizer.
No air, no oxygen no rust.
Or just run it year round.
Great question btw.
I got an sx that was drained and stored in a heated garage with the cap ON.
You could stick 4 fingers through the bottom of the tank.
The tank looked brand new from the outside. What a shame.
I'd like to hear other suggestions too.

Use the new stabil with tank protector in it? Dunno if it works. I've always heard to store them completely full or completely empty.

Diesel or heating oil won't evaporat any type of gas will
If its in storage years gas won't do
Was told K1 is the most stabile over time
But I like the fooging option now

My machines are all stored in a heated basement, drained in the off season, fuel in them during the spring/summer/fall. My 200X tank on the other hand is off the trike while I rebuild it, its in the basement with a film of 2-stroke premix coating the inside. The snowblower and lawnmowers that live outside are always full year-round.
