Hi guys, so I have an ATC70 that I want to build. I want to put a clutched 125 or 140 engine on it. I also want to tear it all down, paint every part, and put new bearings in. So really I'm restoring it. I want to put on some big pro taper handle bars. I just have some questions about some things. How do I find a clutch cable that will work for it? How do I find a brake cable that will reach the big handle bars? How do the lifan engines come? Are they disassembled? Do they come with all the wiring? How do I find a good carb that will work for it? Will the stock exhaust reach and mount onto a lifan or piranha engine? Are lifans good engines? Or do they always have lots of problems. I want somthing that will last.

Answer any questions you are educated on. Thanks guys!

I can't answer any of your questions but I'm doing a similar build. I'm using a minibike frame, ATC 90 rear axle and rims and a 125cc yamaha engine. So it will be like a minibike trike. I would never use a POS lifan engine and I wouldn't chop up a ATC 90 frame personally but it would be cool to have a 125cc engine on a small atc. Good luck with the project.

you want a clutch cable from a pit bike/crf50/crf70 that will work with your engine, either start in gear or non S.I.G.

brake cable, I don't know of a specific cable that fits but maybe fit your bars then work out how short you are then go looking at a motorcycle junk yard or decent motorcycle shop. probably a front brake cable of of either a MX bike or something would work.

the lifans arnt a bad engine, theyre not honda but they last if looked after and not abused. they come with stator and flywheel, carb, sometimes with cdi and full harness.

personally id call TBOLT and tell them what you want, what your planning and im pretty sure they can sell you everything you need except your brake cable.

your exhaust will mount at the head but you will be off on your rear mounting holes. you can either make simple brackets or just elongate the holes on your exhaust.

This is my first 70 modified build. I'll go in to the details after I move to my other computer.

I originally built this back in 08. It has a Loncin 110, manual clutch with electric start. The motor came with carb and electrics but no wiring harness. There are places you can buy generic wiring harnesses but the fit on the harnesses is pretty loose. I built my harness from scratch based on a wiring diagram I developed. The exhaust is a stock pitbike exhaust but I had to do some bending on the head pipe to get it to fit. Nothing too serious but a torch was used to hear the pipe and tweak it to fit. There are cables out there that will work with your bars but you should take the stock cable length and figure out how much longer it needs to be and go down to your local atv shop and find one as close as you can get.

There is a ton on motors out there that will bolt right in. Some come with the carb and electrics, some don't so know what you get when you buy a motor. I'v beat this Loncin motor and it has always run very well so it was money well spent. I sold my trike last year to a friend. He brought it back to me late last year and I did a full makeover on it including stretching the frame 3" and the end result is what you see in the pics. I kinda wish I hadn't sold it now but I have a 70 sitting I my garage now that will become my next creation. DRATV has 8 choices in plastic color so that is a good place to go if you want a different color other than what Maier is selling now. The footpegs on mine are stock footpegs but I had to cut the welds loose and turn the pegs down in the bracket so it will clear the shift lever.

Now, for the wiring. If you have the skills to build your own harness, I suggest buying several rolls of different color 16G wire and a connector kit from Vintage Connections so you can build a custom harness.

People have been experimenting with different gas tanks since nobody produces an aftermarket tank for the 70 other than the plastic tanks. So that's it in a nutshell.

Awesome build flyingw, and thanks for the help. I'm going to buy the lifan 125 manual clutch engine. It comes with a wiring harness. Hopefully everything will go together well. Thanks everyone else for the help.

Just make sure you get the N-1-2-3-4 transmission in the Lifan because the 1-N-2-3-4 transmissions seem to have problems.
