Hello,
I'm a new member to the site, I've been reading on the site for the last month and a half getting new info about my 1984 ytm 225. This is the first trike I've ever owned and have got tons of great info about it. One thing I haven't been able to find is more info about the mikuni vm22 carb that's on it. My carb leaks a large amount of fuel if I don't turn the petcock to off, I'd really like a carb kit to rebuild but also am open to purchasing a new carb. Does anyone know where to purchase either? I've found a bunch of vm22 carbs on eBay but they look very different from my carb.

Thanks in advance

If you don't find an entire carb rebuild kit, sounds like you really only need a new needle valve or need to adjust the float position. The reason your carb is dumping fuel unless you shut the petcock off is because your needle valve isn't sealing against the seat. This can be because the needle has a groove worn into it or the float position is incorrect.

Your correct the needle does have a groove worn in it but the second part about the float position I didn't know it was possible to change this can you explain further.

Hey welcome to the site.I would check the needle valve and the float and do a good cleaning. I had this problem last week on one of my trikes. After a good cleaning, she worked great.Good luck.:welcome:

Welcome MN brother, I believe the reason you can't find a vm22 carb that looks like yours is because the 84 225 came stock with a vm24. I also had the same problem with mine when I first got it, it was the needle. I ended up buying a carb kit for a yfm250(89-91). The guy at the shop and I matched up the needle and the were the same. Also I believe a carb kit for a timberwolf 250 will work and will be cheaper.

I would replace the needle first before doing anything with the float. If the needle fixes the problem, leave the float as is and go ride!
