I spend a fair bit of time in China. More than I do in the US. This summer I had the good fortune to spend a week in New York City and used the subway a few times. Being a steel guy I like to enjoy my structural surrounds. The ones I encountered in the NYC subway were artistically appeasing and structurally terrifying. There are channels, beams and angles that are rusted completely through in spots! The whole freaking thing is about to fall apart! Meanwhile China is building magnetic trains that go over 240mph in silence. Their infrastructures are works of art and it would seem that their military is posed to be #1 in a few short years.

The roof of the NYC subway may out live me, but it won't out live your kids. I can't believe the governments of North America continue to ignore the opportunity of investing in public infrastructure and enjoying the effects of a trickle down economy rather than relying on a consumer based economy that sends all the jobs and money overseas instead of just a portion of the money. Where are the Empire State building and Hoover damn type projects that grew the US during hard times past? Oh, I forgot, that money went to the bankers and Obama phones.

I'm disgusted. Time to go clean dog poop off the shop floor, forgot to close the door last night.
