TRX200 and ATC200Es use the same CDI.I don'tknoe if it's common for thoses model with the #969 CDI but I changed a lot of them.....They fit only on thoses model and the trx125 I think. Can be replaced by another cdi box number with round plug but some wire must be replaced in the connector and you lost the reverse security.

I read somewhere on the net that these bikes will run on the cheap chinese cdi boxes if they would work i would like to go that route. Thanks, Jesse

Yes, but the chinese cdi box are almost the same as the other 185-200,but with cheap quality. You better pay 20$ for a used oem Honda cdi than 20$/ for a new chinese one. And the chinese cdi use a square plug, you will have to replace the connector on your 200es harness. atc110 125m 200m 200s box will fit with the same connector, only 2 wire to replace.

Hi, I recently rebuilt an '85 ATC 200es. I replaced the cdi plug with the square type and purchased a Dr ATV (I think without checking) cdi. Works fine & I hope it's better quality than a Chinese one. Dr ATV also has info about wiring up the square type cdi plug.

Did you fix the problem? If not, are you sure it's the cdi? I'd suggest buying a manual. They have procedures for checking the electrical system out. That's better than throwing money and parts at it.

The reason 84, etc. cdi's are spendy is because the round connector plug units are rare. Do the switch over procedure to a square plug and buy yourself a couple of square plug cdi's for $10.00 or less and you will be good to go. Check this out:
