1984 200es spark issue

i have a 200es that is only sparking sometimes. i can pull the cord and get it to spark once then pull it a bunch more times before the next spark.

what would be causing this.

A cdi box going bad, the plug wire cap has bad connection with the ignition coil wire.

is it possible to convert it to the box cdi? or do i have to replace the one under the cover.

Could be stator also but to be sure you can test all of them.

it was the stator.
