I recently pick up a 85 ATC70 with alot of missing part. Well im in the process of buying parts and was looking in to headlights and looked at wiring diagrams for the 70 and the stator had 3 wires coming from the stator, well I looked at mime and it only has 1 wire coming off the stator its a black wire. I looked at the stator and there is no lighting coil and looks like there never was. So my question is has anyone seen this before?

Could this possibly be a stator from something else? Or did honda release a few atc70's without the lighting coil in the stator?

I'm no expert but I have heard it's not easy to add lights to an original ATC 70 system. The original system is only 6 volts. I just recently had a 73 model that someone added a 6v tractor light to and it wasn't worth the time it took to mount it. It was tapped into the one wire you mentioned. If you want lights you'll probably have to convert it to 12v.

Someone removed your lighting coil , they come with one from the factory .

Thats what I thought but the rubber mount the wire runs through is sized for 1 wire only. I removed the stator plate today. Ill try to post pictures of it tomorrow.

You can buy a 6 volt headlight from DRATV and mounting brackets for the atc 70.

I used a headlight bucket w/switch from an ATC 90 and some universal mounts from e-bay. I replaced the 25/25 watt bulb with a 15/15 watt bulb. Its nice and bright and works great, a very worth while addition IMO. I personally don't see much value in going to a 12V system, the 6V works just fine with a lower watt bulb.
