Check for vacuum leaks then make sure your carb is adjusted to the service manual specs.

Put a jet kit in it.

Does it have a performance intake and exhaust on it? If not then the jet kit you bought it to big and you need to put the original jets back inside the carb.

Look for jetting problems. The jets could be too big. Try putting stock jets in and see if it helps.

Make sure your intake manifold isn't torn or cracked and also check to make sure you throttle cable/idle is adjusted correctly.

It's prob just the valves that need to be shimmed but I wouldn't worry about that until you need to. But glad I could help the more you ride it the less problems you will have with these old things lol.

The clinking sound might be your recoil trying to catch I had mine a little to tight and it was trying to engage while machine was running. First thought was a have a knocking piston or ticking valves but when I got down to hear for sound I came from recoil.
