Hello all! My name is Sam and I was recently given an old Honda atc185S that has spent the last decade sitting outside a gentalman's home exposed to the elements. To my surprise I cleaned up the carb, changed the oil, and threw in a new plug and it fired on the first pull of a lawnmower string (recoil starter and cover are missing)! Looking forward to my experience and the information here will no doubt make it a positive one!.

-Sam.

I'll post some pics up as soon as I get the poor thing back together Wednesday. Had to put tubes in the tires and seal up the gas tank. Looking forward to scootin' around the woods with it :-)

Welcome to the trike continuum. Here a 185S I just refreshed for friends. If yours has been sitting outside, be sure to inspect the bottom of the frame under the motor. That area is bad about rotting because water gets in to the frame and has nowhere to go.

I grew up on a 185S. Learn how to rebuild the recoil starter, and the bike will provide you many years of service.

Would love to learn how to rebuild the recoil.. of course I'll have to get one first LOL. Old owner says it is somewhere near the heap we pulled it off of. The recoil was one of the reasons he parked it all those year ago. Took it of to have someone rebuild it, and there it sat waiting for me.

And now a pic of the poor old thing

Would love to learn how to rebuild therecoil Maddog.. of course to do that I would have to have one :-).
Old guy I got it from says he should have it somewhere but we'll see if it surfaces.. he's kind of a hoarder. How she looks at the moment:

Thinking of calling it either Scar or Stitch due to the nice rip in the left plastics [emoji1]

Not too bad for sitting outside for that long. I've seen worse , Welcome!

thanks... While everything is there except the recoil starter, it's still pretty rough. didn't have the throttle stop screw in correctly so the first thing it did was proceed to shoot the (very rusty) spark arrester out the tailpipe as the engine raced at a fairly high RPM
