So the bearings on my rear axle are shot. Ive been following my clymer manual and have both hubs removed, the spanner nuts for the axle are removed, and the brake is removed. The next step is to remove the axle by tapping it out. All of the tapping in the world has done me no good. I have gone back over the instructions about 5 times to make sure I didnt skip something. I dont want to ruin the axle but the bearings need to be changed so im pretty stumped.
As always thanks for reading and God bless.

I have to go look at my axle in the garage. Do you have it out and taken apart? You have to open it right up to get it out. Plus the bearing on mine had to be smacked out with a big hammer and punch. Wasn't fun. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/10/6dcee1ba4ae5eedff71b2533edf22bae.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/10/96bcaf7750e20d7f2440c207c1253348.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/10/df2eef755a8dcce310d15752d1ddc787.jpg

Now from your pictures it looks like you pulled the axle out on the differential side, but the Clymer manual I have been following says to "tap" it out the other direction. I might have to try it your way, as I am replacing the differential bearings as well anyway. Ill have to take a closer look when I get home, but I believe my rear end wont just come off the way yours did. One of the steps to separating the diff from the upper part of the shaft was removing the axle. Interesting. Thank you for your reply!

As I suspected, my bearing carrier is integrated into the swing arm so I can't pull it off as you did. Although if I drop the swing arm I should be able to separate the drive lower unit from the upper drive shaft.

Totally forgot yours has rear suspension. You will definitely have to drop the rear swing arm completely for easier working.

if you are going to drive it out yes you need to drive it from the differential side, put a piece of wood between your hammer and the axle. If you need to you can still unbolt the differential cover. if you move the boot for the driveline I believe you can disconnect it, can't remember for sure it has been awhile. when they hang up it is usually on the ring gear.

Once I can get ahold of a metric socket that will fit the nut for the swing arm I'm going to drop it. I'm then going to try to find a good pipe at the shop and see if I can't press it all out this weekend. We can get away with a little govt. Work on the weekends. :D

Clymer manual basically says dont even try it, bring it to a dealer.
