Ytm 225 dx brake
Hi, I'm wondering if someone could tell me how to fix my rear brakes... I don't have a hand brake for it. I've been using only the front brakes because the rear foot brake has to be 2 inches off the ground for the brakes to engage. Do I need brake pads? Or does the brake line need to be tightened? I don't know how to tighten them. Thanks in advance for any info.

Mechanical disc breaks suck. To get the most out of them you'll probably need to do all 3.

Start simple, adjust the breaks. Near the disc break guard there will be two wing nuts you can tighten. I think the right side is the foot break and the left would be the hand break. The problem is the cables stretch. Every 225 I've had has had worn out rear breaks that just don't work properly with all the adjusting in the world. I would rather mechanical drum breaks.

Probably wouldn't hurt to try new pads. They are only like $10. If you take the guard off you can inspect the pads and see if they are still within spec.

What it looks like with out cover. Undo three 10mm nuts then pull off one side with pad and grab other pad out once you move the disc over

Is there a casing around it?

I can't get the casing off. Think I bent a wrench trying to get it off. So it's wrench bolts not Philips screws that take it off, correct? you said it was a 10mm mine is 14 mm

the reason his looks different is because it is a 200 not a 225, and they are slightly different between the two. If you need help with it come over to glendive on a saturday or sunday and I can help you out. I even have a spare set of pads for it

My brake is the same I just took my cover off because I'm changing to a hydraulic brake setup. Only difference is you have suspension. And weaker rear axle. Can change hubs to raptor 660 hubs and get 115 bolt pattern. Other Yamaha sport bikes work as well. (Warrior, blaster, raptor, banshee I think. And a couple other that I can't remember. )

It's just gotta be the same inner diameter for a hub right?

Hydraulic brakes on a trike would be cool. When you get it finished send me pics and tell me how and what you used to do it.
