I have been reading a lot on what you can do to them. By going through web cams for a hot cam set up high compression pistons head work or using the timberwolf 250 and bear tracker 250 complete motor or just the cylinder and head off from one of them. I know its not a lot of an increase on power wise but is there any difference in valve size and the cam from the 225dx and timberwolf or bear tracker 250? I can buy the cylinder and head from one of them new and use the 40 over (71mm) piston kit for the 225dx so i can get a high compression piston all for 500. Im wanting to build one and i have several of the 225dx and a dr . And one other question since it will be a new std cylinder using the the 40 over piston will it lose dependability ? Everyone is welcome to share there advice on this project i have

Port and polish. Performance exhaust. Cam. Lifter kit. Gasket set. High compression piston. I wouldn't go 40 over there's not much difference in power from 20 over to 40 from my understanding. Only difference is weaker side walls. Don't quote me on that. Not a small engine mechanic. Only a hobbyist of the ytm

The 40 over high compression piston for the 225dx is the same size piston in a timberwolf 250 and bear tracker 250. Im not boring the cylinder out any if i am going to use the cylinder and head from the timber wolf 250 or the bear tracker 250 from what i have read they are direct bolt on parts if i go this route i know its 6 to 7 cc bolt on before i have the cam done and performance exhaust its a cheaper route than paying to have the head built from the 225dx . $1200. In head and cam 20 over bore and a piston or a little over $500. for a new cylinder and head and a piston with the gasket kit. If i decided to still go with a cam and performance springs add $270. thats why i was wondering on this route

as long as you increase the compression of the timberwolf or the bear tracker you will notice an improvement, otherwise the the 250 cylinders and heads have a lower compression ratio than the 225 and you will notice a decrease in power.

Ya' need the cylinder, off a Bear Tracker, or Timberwolf too? I was thinking of doing the same thing to my Yamaha trike. So gotta purchase the cylinder (and the head) off a 250? Can't bore the OEM cylinder out to 71mm/

I haven't noticed that my Timberwolf swapped DX is any less powerful than other DX225's. I do have a DG exhaust and have played with the jetting a bit. Mine is geared lower because I used the Timberwolf rear end and I'm running 20 inch tires on the back but it was still fast enough to take 1st in 2015 and 2nd in 2016 in the utility class. I've thought about building a modded out DX with all of the same mods (cam, high compression piston, larger carb) but the one thing I think holding me back is the limited gearing options. There is a guy on the ytm Facebook page that has used the dx differential with the timberwolf swingarm but you are still left with gearing set up for 22 inch tires. So you will lose top speed if you go any smaller with your tires.

Has anyone put a 350 moto4 engine in a 225 frame before. A friend of mine had a 225 and 350 moto4 and they looked very similar.

I think they're basically the same quad. The motor mounts are probably different. How it mates up to the rear end is probably different.

Okay, the Timber Wolf, or Bear Tracker cylinder head--direct bolt on. does any one got the part number for the high compression piston to use? Is it a Wiseco? Gotta rebuild this unit from the ground up. Please give advise.

That kit by engines only is no longer available. I've emailed them about a few different kits and the ttr230 big bore one they are no longer making.
