I have an 86 250sx I believe, I've been going through all the wiring and found a few crappy pieces. Anyways after checking continuity through each circuit I realize I have continuity between 2 that I don't know if I'm supposed to?
It's both circuits that go to the starter relay, red yellow and green/red? The green red goes through the cdi and neutral saftey switch then up to the dash, and the red yellow goes to the start button, between ALL the connections everywhere I have continuity, this is with the cdi unplugged.
Am I supposed to have continuity through the starter relay on these 2? It's not making sense to me.

Anyone, please?

Unless you unplug everything in that circuit then yes, you will have continuity because of the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid is a coil and you will read continuity on each side of the coil. The neutral safety switch provides a ground to the starter solenoid and neutral light. Pos battery power is always sitting on the neutral light and starter solenoid. Its the ground that completes the circuit.

You will also read continuity through light bulbs because of the filament.

Cool, I actually got the trike running today! The wire going into the voltage regulator harness plug was disintegrated so I put in weather proof connectors and traced a few more wires down.
I'll be sure to scroll this forum for more info for sure

Sounds like you have things well in hand. You'd be surprised at how many guys can rip apart a motor in their sleep but when it comes to wiring and electrical systems can't deal with them.

I'm an electrician so unless it's tons of resistors or untestable electronic parts I can handle it! It's the timing of the motors that always gets me.
Now I just need to source some parts for this bad boy, so I can't get it into trails shape!

I'm an aircraft electrician/avionics. Since you are electrically skilled, here is a link to OEM style connectors. Be sure to get the blue crimpers. Ive bought 3 different kits. Great stuff to have around when working on wiring. Go to the kits button.

What parts are you needing? I have had one 250sx I parted out so I might have some of the stuff you need. Also some parts from the 250es big red interchanges and I have parted a couple of them out too.
Also, not to fight over brands or anything, but I have had good experience with http://cycleterminal.com/ as well for factory style plugs. They are my source for the harnesses I make.
If my memory is correct, the 85 250sx has a CDI plug that is round with 6 pins, the 86/87 years were a 4+2 plug, where it has 2 separate connectors, one being 4 pin and the other 2 pin which basically all modern atvs use now. Besides that, the year *should* be on the neck of the frame. 85 and 86 had some changes, I personally check part numbers on partzilla.com to validate interchanges.
Talking about careers.. I'm a jack of all trades, but my last couple of jobs were database administrator and workstation tech. Didn't get to build/troubleshoot boards much, more of a replace the whole unit, but at home it is a different story.
