Hi Bill! :welcome:The Tri-Z shares the same bottom engine mounting locations with 82-87 YZ250, '81 IT250 and maybe later years but definitely not earlier, and all the variations of IT/YZ 465 and 490. But just because it bolts in doesn't mean the carb and exhaust will point in the same angles. Intake and exhaust angles varied model to model and from year to year in some cases.

Sorry mate I just realize the 82 yz 250 and 490 was air cooled so if 87 yz is a lot better than the tri-z I will put the 87 in I think u can bore the 250 87 to 300cc do u no anyone who has put the 87 init is it hard work will I have to cut the frame thanks drew

Only the IT250 and the 465/490 engines are air cooled, 82+ yz250's are water cooled. YZ250 engines have the centered exhaust so its easier to bolt in than the others. 83-87 engines are very similar to the Tri-Z engine, same 68x68 bore and stroke, but they have a power valve the Tri-Z doesn't. Also they are ported more aggressively. 82 has 70mm bore, 64 stroke, different shaped head, but otherwise just like the 83-87. Also, the left side of the crank is different from Tri-Z to YZ, so YZ engines must run YZ ignitions, which have a lighter rotor and no output for headlights. Lastly, you can swap a power-valved YZ top end onto a Tri-Z bottom end, do a search, it has been covered here before.

What is "best" is a matter of opinion, but at least you can make a slightly more informed decision.

Most RD350s are air cooled, some were watercoled, the RZ350 is watercooled.

The TRI-Z and Banshee frame is not the same or even close.

If I was you, stick with the stock engine and add some mods if you want a bit more performance.
