Hi all. I'm thinking about picking up a trike for sale near me, and would like everyones opinion and advice on price. Its an 83 ATC250R that I stumbled upon while buying some parts for my 200X. I had seen the bike advertised for $2200 and thought it was way overpriced, and then by coincidence found myself face to face with the bike and the seller. He has dropped the price to 1800, and told me he would do 1700 cash but not a penny less or he'd keep it. The details:

recent Maier plastics, very clean machine overall.
"new top end" he claims
fires right up, runs and rides perfectly, needs nothing

I've never been that into the air foolers till recently, and it seems to me like its about $300 overpriced. A couple of side jobs, however, and I can make up the difference. I was holding out for an 85, but I've started to appreciate the second gens, for both aesthetic reasons as well as availability. What do you guys think of the price?

Sounds too high to me, and generally, with Maier plastic, along went the rest of the bike to that condition. So probably WAY too high. Very hard without pics and details.

Sorry, I have no pics, but I plan to go look at it again. When I was there I wasn't really looking too hard. It did look pretty nice from a distance though.

Yeah sounds a bit high. If you can afford it get an '85 or '86. Big differences between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen R's. Power is way updated too!

Thanks Darius. I would absolutely grab a 3rd gen if I could find one. I have been watching for over a year, and on the rare occasions they come up, I run into the same problem. Too much money for not enough trike. Five years ago I could find them for 1500-2000 in decent shape. Heck, I bought my Tri-Z back then in need of a resto but complete for 450! Now everyone wants a premium.

Sounds like that guy is going to be keeping his machine.
