I watched a kid go down a steep 20 ft. bank on a big wheel with his feet off the pedals and watched him cartwheel into the ditch right next to the two lane highway i was driving on. Only potentially deadly "tricycle" accident I've ever seen. No supervision whatsoever. The news has turned into a scarefest, and they wont rest until every child sits in a padded room until they are 21.

Most likely it is because children are wards of the state and the state needs them healthy and working some they can bond them, sell the bond or borrow against the bond, and then at some point tax them as good little worker bees. The pyramid scheme only works if you continually have more able bodied people to tax and borrow against.
