Hi guys,

Had a 3 wheeler when I was a kid. Now that I am older I decided to buy one. Paid $300 bucks for a 72 Honda CT70 and traded it for this 1983 Honda big red atc 200e. She's in great condition. Just have to change the rear brake cable. Engine is smoky. Came with a gasket kit. I'm hoping to be able to just throw new rings on and be good to go. Thoughts on this ? Thanks.

All cleaned up just have the seat cover left. Which also came with it.

All done for now.

Nice find! Hang on to it. They are hard to find in that condition. I have one just like it and LOVE IT!

Any thoughts on just doing a gasket kit with new rings. Or should i just change the piston too. Compression is good. Just smokey

All internal specs will be listed in a decent manual. That will, and should be, your only deciding factor to what needs attention. You'll have to look over your head carefully and determine if your valves, guides and seats need work. Valve seals will be a must regardless of the other components condition.

Thanks. She smokes a lot less since i adjusted the valves and adjusted the carb. She was running way too rich. I will still redo the top end this winter. Should be good for another 10 years after.

What kind of Battery should I get a 12v 12ah or 12v 14ah ?

If you decide to just rering, be sure to have the cylinder honed. If the compression is good, you might not have to do anything below the head.

Yes will get it honed for sure. Adjusted the valves they were loose. No more backfire and runs great just smokes a bit when I open it up. When it idles or low speed barely smokes. When I open her up she smokes. Weird.

So everything is apart and everything was in great shape. Honed and waiting for oem rings and good to go. The valve gaskets were done.

Thats good news. As for a battery, the YUASA brand from a dealer will run you $133 and a jobber one around $75. Personal preference I guess.

You're in Canada so I would definitely recommend buying your battery online from Saskbattery (http://www.saskbattery.com/ecommerce_215.htm). They sell an AGM battery that is made in the USA by Yuasa, but is restamped as "Motocross" brand. These batteries are awesome, and reasonably priced. One for your Big Red will run around 80-90 bucks including shipping, which I've found by far to be the cheapest and best quality!
