From what I can gather through basic search is that All 1981 Models have a 17 digit VIN. Ok, well Im looking at one right now that has a 14 digit VIN which through this sites help I plugged into the VIN decoder. Its response was in fact a 1981 250R. Where can I find how many owners? Also the Reg states 1980 for year, but right side of neck is stamped 1981.

you will never find out how many owners has it registered. However if you call your state and give them the vin they can tell you the last person one file. Make sure the bike has not been stolen at some point in its life. From there you can even apply for a title. I got an 85 200x titled for $27.50 and plated to run some trails requiring insurance proof.

The owner did all that through the State. Currently has title with the 14 digits displayed as "Vehicle Identification" and Has a Title number which is a totally different number. Year is listed as 1980 ATC 250R. The contact from the state said this was one of two ever titled. Would anyone know the specific month Honda started making the 250r?

1981 there is and never was a 1980 250r. it would of been built in 1980 and sold as a 1981 like most are.

Does that mean that the first two ever made had a 14 digit VIN? I will post pics but need some info before I get it

Understandably so that very little information may be known about the 14 digit VIN. Does anyone know of another place for me to get some information. The VIN check on this site when ran comes back 81 250r. Im just trying to figure out if its worth buying for 1400? everything runs fine and has extra parts all original bike. Thanks

Ok. It runs good. Has extra parts. It's all original. If it's in good shape, not all beat up, all that's left is to ask yourself if it's worth $1400 to you? Of course, try to get it for less. If you can't, would you pay that much for it?
