Should I fix it or sell it? (insert Deliverance sound bites here)

Fix of course. We're never ones to run from a challenge. Is that an old Wisconsin or Kohler on it? Must be dual action with no springs to retract. I bet that would have enough jam to make a bigger push plate and a four sided splitter on the end.

Fred would make Lamont and Julio go earn some money with it... Only to have "big dummy" ruin it like he always does. That damn Lamont, talk about a buzzkill...

What would Fred Sanford do? Probably sell it for scrap.

I would fix it up, look into coolpool's mods, paint it and add a set of Centerlines and BFG A/T radials.

He'd probably have the "Big One" trying to start it.

If I keep it, I'll swap out the motor. It has a neat twin cylinder vintage 1984 military (likely from a low kw generator) motor on it. Hard to source parts for something like this. Super overkill for my needs. Not to mention that attempting to tow this with my 200es would likely flip me quicker than the Flintstones ride at a rib joint.

I hope your wife's name isn't Elizabeth...

I have to ask; Will you be painting a white wall on the right tire, or blacking out the left one?

No, but my brother's first name is. Thanks for that.

Most likely.

Saturn Surplus has parts available for that engine. Its a model 2a016 (2-cyl 16 cubic inch version of the 1a08 single, of which I have 4 :naughty:). Nice engine, and nice splitter!

Wow,,, very similar setup to my splitter. i'll post some pics of when we built her, and as she sits now. thing is A BEAST!! plenty of power, but a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro to move by hand. Also, with a fixed blade and a flat piston theres twice the leaning and bending. still, i've split some cord with her and she's still purring. i like it. FIX IT!

Initially I put the splitter on craigslist, and got only one offer, which I declined. Regardless of the fact that it isn't currently running, I think it is worth far more than the $200 I was offered for it. My other splitter works well and I can haul it with my 200es, but I would need to move the home built splitter with my Farmall M, which isn't really friendly to my yard when the ground is not frozen. The more I look at the home built splitter, the more I am tempted to keep it. I have a set of Ford Explorer aluminum wheels with decent tires that may bolt right on. The motor pulls over with decent compression, so it may still be good. If nothing else, it will make a good winter project. I guess I am like a magnet for misfit motorized toys.
