Do you really need one? How often does the chain become de railed? Is there a problem with the stock tensioner? Also what is the point of it being hooked up to the foot brake

A case saver is cheap insurance. Believe me it only takes one time throwing the chain off to bust your cases then you have real problems. $$$
The deal with the stock chain tensioner is if you ride any at all you are constantly stripping the adjusters. $$$ With the spring loaded chain tensioner you never have to worry about stripping adjuster or having to keep your chain adjusted.

So what company used to make the tensioners? They seem like a good idea to get one.

BAPP - Big Al's made a couple of different designs and Cancilla were the main people making spring loaded chain tensioners.

Cancilla were more for racing as well as the HD version from BAPP.
Here is a Cancilla:

OK we're talking after market. I was thinking you were refering to a stock component. I see you have a machine named "Fugly" like I do. Must be a Canadian thing!

Must be a Canadian thing. I could call all my machines Fugly, but that would be pretty lame.

Hey in that one pic with the engine the Joe has posted with the yellow pull starter, I would like to get one of those left side cases that eliminates the hi lo range, does anyone have one?
