the other day i was riding my 84 200es and it all the sudden it stopped. it did not have spark. i replaced the cdi as per directions on this site and still have no spark. I replaced the coil last year. and the trigger/pulse thing tested fine at 30 ohms. when i tested the stator or primary coil under the fly wheel i get open loop and when i crank it over i get 50 ac volts from it. so is it bad? thanks

I just had that same thing happen on my 185s engine. I replaced the stator under the flywheel and it fired right up. I think the coil is your problem. CDI's do not tend to go bad too quickly. The other thing you could check first actually is your spark plug wire. If it has corroded you may not have spark. You can trim the end and see if that helps. There are lots of You-Tube videos that will show you how to trim it.

Here is a link to a coil:

Here is a link to a flywheel puller that should work:

did you have the exact same problem? stator reading open loop but getting volts from it while cranking? i don't think i have to remove the flywheel to change the stator because it comes off with the outer crankcase housing according to the service manual. is this correct?

Nope, with mine I got nothing at all. What I would do is take a 12v test light and hook it up to the stator wire and a ground. If you get a light when you crank it, your stator is good, if not, something else is the problem. I dont know if you can replace without pulling the flywheel. I would think you would have to but I never did one on an ES before.
