Hey all. I am looking to build a front ski setup on my big red. Was wondering if anyone has any picks of this set up? I have a couple of good skis for a yamaha phaser ready to go. I was thinking of welding the two skis together and then building some type of wheel chock so I can just drive on and clamp down. My concern is keeping the skis level and not rolling with the front tire. I've seen guys use bungee cords to hold it up but would prefer something a little more substantial ... any help would be appreciated

That is an awesome set up you have. I actually just built a ski mount set up for the front of my YTM. Here's the pic http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/09/b4430f7f81a1518b0054cf2f8d14b2ab.jpg

Use my wheel pin to mount it and then the two ears on the left side. (Right side of picture) has two ears to stop it from rolling back or forward.

Awsome! I was thinkING I'd have my skis side by side but that gives me some ideas to space them out like yours

Why not a single large ski?

I like the twin ski idea better, I think that it will also be a lot easier to build the wheel chock set up on two skis then one wide single ski. Also I already have the two skis lol

they are tjd brand tracks. I had a set on my rhino. Those are the front track sets from my rhino. Just fabbed up a couple brackets to hold them in place so they don't rollover.

Here's mine...... I'm doing one wide ski on the tire. Haven't seen the need yet round here though.

Yes. Trutrax in Isanti mn is where it came from. Universal setup. Also came with two skis. We had it on a quad last year. I know they are open, but can't get the owner to reply to email questions. Bout $2k new..... Got mine from someone on Craigslist that had no clue what they were.

very cool. It looks like you have some pretty large wheel spacers in there?

I'm not sure what size they are. They were on there with the Douglas wheels when I got the bike. I think they are about 2".

Two feet wide. Wanted more stability for ice fishing. Yes the exile slide right through and bolts up nicely.

My buddy has a single wide it's I think it's a foot wide and it's awesome really nicely done but it has the same stability as a tire. Wanted mine to be a little more stable if I hit a soft bank or something ice fishing.

Whatever you guys do,after you get a setup you're happy with. Get a plastic ski/skis. They are like adding a foot of suspension, zero drawbacks, lighter etc. Worth every cent!

I would be a little concerned about the stress on the front forks.. say if you were to hit a a large bump but only on one ski , I feel like it would want to bind the front shock? Just my two cents

That is good to know. I am starting this out with steel skis. a lot cheaper to hack up if this doest work out. If I find I am really using the trike a lot with tracks and skis then I will look into building a front plastic ski.

I will have to see hope not. I don't think it will though. Haven't had a problem when I'm tearing through a slew and my tire jams in a track.

Thats what I was thinking about doing to a Bigred a friend of mine said tracks that fit a Yamaha Kodiak will fit a Bigred 250. The bolt pattern is 4x 110mm. I have a couple questions does the bike loose a lot of power in deep snow?
did you try it in deep mud?
how does it steer?

Huskydave. 1 the bike does loose a lot of power in the deep snow but if you stay high in the rpm in say 2nd 0r 3rd gear then it just plows through
2 I haven't had it in any really deep mud but I can say that I haven't gotten any where close to stuck with these tracks on. I have some pretty rough trails out here that are a real chore for the br with just tires and with the tracKS I have no issues at all.
3 steering is better than expected. I think because I used the front track frames and turned them around for the back. The front track frames are curved along the bottom for steering ability. Rear track frames are totally flat and longer. I was concerned about steering aswell that is why I used the front tracks, so on flat ground it wouldn't have a massive foot print and allow for easier steering.

Seen one of these pop up in the local classifieds the other day... ironically it's on the classifieds here as well.

Called a "ski-trac" , it clips onto the front wheel of a trike.

I would just weld 2 steel snowmobile skis together after installing the super wide trapper ski skins use a bit of flatbar across the top fabricate two ears with the same size hole as your forks and run that. you could just use some light chain or cheap 1" nylon straps to limit movement or go with that shock absorber design everyone wants to change their snowmobiles to plastic ski's and the steel ones are cheap. I have seen skis for trikes that were made out of one piece of steel that were probably 15" wide had a pocket that fit the front tire you could make one pretty easy just a piece of 1/4" steel bent up with a pocket that comes up around the sidewall of the front tire that way you could just drive on it and ratchet strap it down.
