Original Ohtsu Pro Vector 301s, which came on the SX, are 2-ply. If you're going to run original rims, as long as you get 22 x 11-8 tires, you can use 2 ply or 4 ply. While 4 ply are most likely going to be more durable, I believe they are a heavier tire. Ohtsu no longer makes the Pro Vector 301. I think they stopped around 2010, which is a shame. They're hard as heck to find now.

What kind of knob style will depend on what type of riding you're going to do and the conditions you're riding in. If you're riding a ton of tight trails and muddy terrain, you want to get a more aggressive tread pattern.

Here are the various tires you can get at BikeBandit.com to fit your SX. http://www.bikebandit.com/tires-tubes/1985-honda-atc250sx-motorcycle-tires/t11?m=1913

This is probably the closest tire you'll find to the Ohtsu 301. http://www.bikebandit.com/tires-tubes/motorcycle-tires/duro-hf240-atv-tire?m=1913

There's some decent used OEM 250SX wheels on eBay at the moment. You'll have to do a search.
