I would find a set of lower triples......unless you have a band saw or hack saw to cut the mushroom out....The down side is not having enough thread after the fact.

Just try to cut it straight or you'll bugger up the threads....Maybe a local machine shop will do it for you.....They'll have a metal band saw, and provide a quick, metric, re thread.....Just my two cents......

File the mushroomed out part of the stem flush with top of the remaining threads or just a little under & then grab a thread file of the correct pitch & carefully starting on the good thread work your way slowly anti clockwise up the stem until you come off the top. This is a bit of a tedious task but will enable you to get the nut started eventually. Good luck if you go this method.
