Cool post. My parents have (and I continue to repair and keep it running) a John Deere 216. They have the electric lift option. The reason I bring it up is that their lift motor burned out and we were not able to get a replacement since John Deere discontinued this part. I have the proper wire and after rewinding their motor, the know-how to do so. In case you ever need a hand with something like that, give me a shout!

Thank you, I'll try to remember that. My father picked up a few of these brochures when he bought our Deere back in '72. 3ww might not have been the place to post this. But I'm glad you liked them. I think they are so cool. What a versatile tractor. Mine is a manual tractor(no hydraulic or electric motor),which I'm glad about because there is less to go wrong. I'm always on the lookout for a manual angle kit for the front blade. They are very rare. I've never seen one for sale. Actually, I have only seen a couple of these attachments for sale on eBay.

Awesome, I love vintage tractor stuff.

I'm also a fan of the Ford 8n and it's plethora of accessories…the sawmill being my favorite…my least favorite being the lack of decent brakes:/

Jd110: No worries about posting JD stuff here in the open forum..that's what it's for! :beer

I like the old JD garden tractors too and have a pair I posted a pic of in another thread.. An '86 330 Diesel, and a '78 208. Hard to find a more rugged garden tractor than the old 100, 200, and 300 series JD's! And specimens in very good condition tend to bring very respectable prices too...

Thanks for posting those. I have a few of them for my tractors, but I'd love to find a Gard N Cart for my Cub 100 or my JD112. Brinly is contemplating making
some of these old attachments again....if they do I hope they are as durable as the old ones.

Ride Red a 330 and 208....NICE!

Yes I did see those, Ride Red. That's a really nice pair. Hang on to that 330-it's a keeper. Also, very cool you wanted the 208 for your son. He might thank you the rest of his life.
Dirt weed. I hope they are, too. They wouldn't want these ole Deere's to out last there equipment. My dad bought Land Pride rock rake for his 1020. Then had it powder coated green with Deere decals-lol. He also has a 71 140h3 he's itching to give me. Gard-in-cart is cool. That fork lift would be handy, now. My dad bought the 110 when he was in his 20's and Strong.

I stole a 1989 hydro 165 last year, for the hefty price of $300... Guy had it sitting for a bit, battery was dead, and he couldn't move it around. Sold it with a "locked up" transmission. So I looked it over, gave him the cash, wrestled it into my trailer, along with the sweeper and dethatcher and took off. Got a few blocks away, pulled over and tried out the hydro release knob and the machine rolls perfect. Exactly as I figured. (I love stupid people) Got home, power washed it, put the battery charger on it, changed the oil and smelled the gas tank, which stunk like old fuel. But of course curiosity had to be dealt with, so I cranked it over with a shot of ether, and the old Kawasaki motor came to life. Well, if once is good, 3 tries of ether just to hear it run, it decided not to shut off! Running on that skuzzy old gas and 6 year old battery. Sharpened the blades and put some fresh fuel in and mowed all summer.

Pulled it into the garage this winter, got a new set of blades and the mulching baffles, new timken bearings for the spindles, few cracked brackets welded up and a fresh coat of paint on the deck. New front tires as well. This next winter, it's gonna get blown back apart and all the green is going to get freshened up... My buddies think I am sick in the head, but you guys can relate I am sure! This little 27 y/o tractor beats any of this modern day, Home Depot, Briggs/Stratton crap any day!

You did really good. I paid that, last year, for a '71-8hp-110, that runs, but needs a fair about of work.(I did bad). This has nada to to with it but here's an old 42" JD tractor wheel we used for a gas fire pit that we just finished up. Complete with a "China cap" top. 229745229746

Almost done restoring my deck. It was in bad shape. Rusted the bearings were shot and spindles needed replacing. Have to get it done this weekend
as the grass is growing like mad. Of course a new serial number decal from Blue Line Graphics.

I know nothing about these older JD lawn tractors except for the fact I want one really bad. There is a guy close to me who has a clean 214 for $500. Everything but the variable speed control works.

Jd110
04-15-2016, 09:10 AM
The 214 is one of the last, well built, garden tractors, in my opinion. It replaced the 140 in '75. The Kohler is a solid engine. If it's in good shape-$500 ain't bad. Good luck!
Seeing that the speed controller is broke-you gotta low ball him:twisted:

Okay John Deere fans, my buddy has a 420 mower with the 20hp Onan engine. It surges (dirty carb), has a leaking oil filter adapter (east fix), and needs a deck belt and a couple of deck springs (again easy fix). He's not fond of working on things beyond changing oil and is tired of messing with it and wants $600 for it. It has about 1300 hours on it. Looking at the price of these things, they are not cheap tractors. Watchya Think?

I almost bought a round fender a few years ago when I was Jones'n for a green and yellow mower. It had the front mount snow blower both in perfect condition. He only wanted $500 and I snoozed on it and lost out. These tractors can be just as addicting as atv's.

It's a 318, not a 420. I don't know why I thought it was a 420, but however, I bought it anyway. About 20 minutes worth of carb cleaning I had it running like a top and a new oil filter turned a steady drip into a dime sized spot since I parked it last night.

It has a 46 inch deck that I have to replace the tensioner spring, but it's in really good shape.

This is the first hydrostatic tractor I've ever owned so it's takes a little to get used to. I'm used to the foot clutch mowers.

Wasn't the 140 a hydro??? Where the 214 is a conventional gear drive with a separate clutch and brake pedal as opposed to the 110 and 112 with the single pedal on the left that served as both clutch and brake. I always thought the 210 and 214 were the replacement/upgraded version of the 110 and 112.

The 300 series were great tractors too. Every bit as well built as their 200 series counterparts. Same Kohler engines, only they were hydro... With the exception of the 322 and 330 which have in-line 3-cylinder Yanmars, one gasoline and the other diesel respectively.

I was looking at the manuals I still have for my 330 diesel awhile back, tractor alone with no implements tips the scale at 850lbs, the manual for my 50" deck states its shipping weight is 150lbs, plus I have wheel weights. All fueled and ready to mow my old Johnny weighs over 1000lbs! LOL! Heavy little mutha!

BKM: nice scoop with the 318 :beer

Yes. That's right. They are hydrostatic. Must have meant 214 replaced 110. 73' 110 must have had a separate brake option, as did the 140 H1 cuz mine has foot clutch on left and brake on the right.

Hey guys. If you don't already know, tractor data.com, has lots of info on these and the different engines they used on the 300 series. Sounds like by '83 they had they kinks worked out with the 2-cylinder onan.

I got a little hydraulic fluid leak coming from the rear that I can't seem to find. It's not bad, but enough to drive me crazy.

My tractor is an 85 with the Onan B43g engine. It has 12xx hours on it, but runs awesome.

My 330 has a hydro leak too, as far as I can tell it is coming from one of the main hose fittings at the bottom of the trans facing the front of the tractor. My directional control arm bellcrank in the transmission is physically worn and sloppy making the tractor's ground speed unsteady. Sad thin is that as simple as the repair will be, I see no way of begin able to get to it without dropping the entire transmission out of the tractor. I figure I will take care of the leaky hose/fitting when I drop the trans to fix the bellcrank. Mine has over 1900 hours.

JD110: That's interesting that there were some 110's with separate pedals.. I was under the impression that all 100 series gear drive tractors were single pedal design. Before I got my 330, I had a 1971 112 that was actually a 10hp. If you look up the models you can see that for several of the earlier years a 112 was actually a 10 horse and the 110 was 8 horse. Then somewhere along the way, someone at JD said "hey, why don't we have the model number accurately convey the HP of the model!" LOL!

Exactly like mine... ON flat ground it isn't too bad, but a slight uphill grade and it loses speed, and a little downhill it will speed up quite a bit. And reverse can be real sluggish to get motivated. At first I thought my transmission was just worn and getting really tired. But I had the rear fenders off for a good cleaning a year or so ago and noticed that the little bellcrank on the transmission directional control shaft was sloppy due to wear. Tractor will climb a hill so steep in forward it will make the front end dance. I'm almost 100% certain my issue is that worn bellcrank letting the actual control shaft float back and forth enough to make the ground speed unsteady.

You might be able to get a look at that bellcrank if you lay down on the ground while having a friend cycle the hydro control lever up top. It's the final bit of linkage in the motion drive control system. If your tractor is like mine, it will be on the right side of the transmission as viewed from overhead.

bkm

I'll take a look at that. Reading a couple of threads on My Tractor Forum, they talk about a couple of bolts that wear out on the linkage making it not hold a desired speed.

checking with you boys because i know this is a wealth of knowledge. I have a 1966 John Deere Round Fender 110. I just ordered all new belts for it. I can't find the belt that runs the mule drive. Its referred to as the "intermediate drive belt". It runs from the engine pulley to down to the pulley that engages the deck. it is itself engaged by the right foot. Its on the outside of the passengers side of the tractor. Anyone have a belt number? Its not M41335, M40015, or M44121. I talked to the dealer, and they're looking, but i didn't get the warm and fuzzy from the kid on the phone.

You didn't get warm and fuzzy from the kid on the phone, so your checking with us boys. Mighty nice of ya. First, tell us what side a passenger sits on a '66 jd110?
Just kidding redsox. I don't have a clue to your question. There's a couple good forums. I'd be patient with the dealer. They should know. I've found it hard getting stuff thru certain guys at our Jd dealer. One guy couldn't find a flywheel for one and said "why don't you just throw the whole thing away" haha

Haha. Its an easier way of saying the starboard, because I'm not sure where you're sitting. As for forums, I've done a few searches with no luck. I was a member on MyTractorForum awhile back, but about six months ago i got an email notification that the thing was hacked and all the information got out. I don't go on anymore.
