So I purchased what is supposed to be an 83 rear swing arm with a 6 inch extended axle. Instead of changing whole swing arm I just changed the axel itself. Once I got the axle installed my caliper won't mount correctly it rubs on the disc. I took the pads off just to mock up and it mounted fine. Does anyone know is there a difference in those two swing arms or have I put it back together incorrectly? Would really appreciate the help before getting all back together with new bearings.

Interesting post,

Have you been driving the machine previously? (Or is it a project machine?)

What is the status of the parking brake?

Please clarify,

You are putting an 83 axle into an 85?

Thanks

83-85 200x axles are all the same and so are swing arms but 83 has no dog bone and round tube. Something may have been modified or else you have not installed axle correctly and may have a built up of dirt junk causing something not to seat. This happened on a swing arm I put bearings and and something was off 1/8" total. Its best to fully disassemble and clean everything 100% so you know everything is correct. If your not super familiar with these post up photos of each and I'll be able to tell you whats wrong.

Arlaunch yes I had been driving machine previously with no problems and axle had no play. Yes I am putting a 6 inch extended axle that was in an 83 swing arm into my 85 swing arm.
Oldskool83 thank you for your input. I will definitely check to see if there's an excess of built up dirt.

I wish i could remember the name of the bolt... Socket bolt?

These brakes are self centering due to this socket bolt that needs grease from time to time.

I would like to think it was as easy as that but very highly unlikely?

I have never seen a 6 inch extended axle before.

Maybe you could send a pic of your machine when this problem is solved.

That would be cool!

Can you post pics of the rear spocket hub. I think your axle is a Durablue plus six for the 82 250r . This axle will work Im using one in my 84 200x . What brake disc did you use. Did you push the piston back in on the caliper. Also like posted above check the pin that the caliper slides on to see if it is stuck.

+6 axles are either 200x or durablue made them on 82 250R's You need to use certain things if using the 250R axle. Here is a +6 in a 84 200x. It should look something like these less the 450R caliper.

Thank you everyone for your help. Will try and post some more pics this weekend when I get back in the garage!

Certain cheap eBay brake pads have been known to be twice the thickness of OEM pads and that might be your issue not sure.

When I put my 82 250r axle in my 84 200x it was a direct bolt on . I had to use the 81-82 250r style rear sprocket.

I was using the original pads that were on the bike when I got it cause they still had plenty of life. I also left the brake disc that was already on the 6+ axle on it because they appeared to be the same. When I can get back into the garage I will look more into it and hopefully get some more pics to make my question more helpful. I really appreciate all the feedback so far!

There is a possibility that the rear disc and hub are from a second gen 250r 83-84. If so the disc hub has a different offset than the 200x. I looked at your pics several times and your disc in the before pic looks more centered on the skid plate. And in the after pic it looks more towards the right side towards the wheel.

Well I didn't make it into the garage this weekend to work on the axle. I did however make it in there to clear out more room for the second 200x I just bought today!229027
