I recently bought my first trike. I was told it was a 1987 125m, but it turns out it is a 1986. Lesson learned. Pictures are on my profile. The more I tear into it, the more I realize it needs. Smokes like crazy so the motor needs a rebuild, reverse doesn't work, rear fenders, brakes, wheels and tires, exhaust etc...I'm also learning that parts are a pain to find and some are near impossible. I paid $300 for it, but my question is should I punt it or invest the money into it. I'm not the mechanical type so I'm thinking this could easily top $2000 to get it in tip top shape. I would have no problem if it were an 87, but how rare is the 86 125m? I haven't seen many for sale. I'd hate to part it out or punt it, and while it would be something I would want to pass on to my son, I don't want to over invest in the wrong project. Any advice would be appreciated.

The 125's are a dime a dozen here in NY. Can usually find them in decent shape on CL for around 500 all day

I hate to say it but this 86 125m might be to far gone just because parts are so hard to find for the second gen. As far as rareity it is only a little less rare than the 87 and the are the same bike so no worries there. I know I love my 86 125m but mine is a very low hour machine and in very good shape.
